I ran the 1st time at Shepps and could only turn 5000-5500rpm.What is the right rear gear for my car? 3000 # car ,305 outside tire,285 inside,I have a 6.83 now.Motor is a 360 with domed pistons and stock heads other than better springs and Roller rockers.I would like to turn 6500-6800 range. How high of rear gear will I need to get there? Thanks Eddie

I am not sure how big Shepps is but with that gear ratio it looks to me like your problem might not be your gear. Sounds like the engine is topping out you may consider some better heads and intake. An engine will only turn rpm if it can get the air and fuel into it and the exhaust out of it. I have seen poor breathing engines actuall stop turning rpms and level out under a load.

If I drop down into second I can send the tach to 8000 .Do you still think it is a engine problem? I have a decent intake(Holley street avenger) and a 750 Holley 4 barrel and headers with 10" open mufflers.

...I have a 2 night old full spool 7.33 that will put you right in the money with the 10 inch tires you run on the sportsman. I will take $425..I can bring it with me to J'ville. Give me a call if you would like to purchase it. 217-741-1973
