Has anyone had problems with the RF ball joint sheering off on a Rocket? We have a 2009 blue front end rocket and have sheered two lower ball joints off in the last 3 weeks. The track has been a little rough but we were running a #350 and #400 spring when this happen. They have sheered even with teh spindle and we are trying to figure out what the cause is.

What brand of ball joint was it?

Has is taken any hard hits in the right front wheel, and bent the ball joint stud? If the tapered hole in the spindle gets egg shaped and does not fit the stud correctly, the new ball joint stud can flex back and forth and break much like what you are describing. The fix would be to clean the hole up with a reamer or replace the spindle.

It was a Howe ball joint. After washing the car tonight it appears like the bottom shock cone must have come loose(assume wire ties broke) and then it looks like the spring bowed or pushed against the shock shaft breaking that and then I guess the ball joint went. Guess we will try getting 3 wire ties on the cones this week...anyone use anything different to hold the cones on Genesis Shocks?

Stainless safety wire.

Are you coil binding on the zip ties causing them to break?
