Ronnie Johnson claims $3,000 with North GA VRS win, his second of 2010
By Chris Tilley
CHATSWORTH, GA (May 29, 2010)—Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN made his stake and claim to the Volunteer Racing Series with the $3,000 victory at the North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, GA on Saturday Night May 29, 2010.
This was Johnson’s second win of the season in just three events held on the tour so far. Johnson took the lead on the 19th lap of the 40-lapper in front of a great Saturday Night crowd to claim and become the only repeat winner of the year while driving the Miller Bros. Coal, Simmons Lawn Care, Koontz Plumbing & Construction, Vinson Racing Engines sponsored GM Performance CT-525 powered MasterSbilt Race Car.
Four cautions slowed the event. The first yellow would wave on the eighth lap as Mark Vineyard slowed in turn two, then the next yellow would wave on the 21st lap as Gary McPherson slowed on the speedway. On the very next lap the yellow flag would fly as Jamie Perry and Brian Hickman both collected one another in turn four and the final yellow would wave on the 28th lap as Freddy Smith slowed in turn four with a rear flat tire.
The Volunteer Racing Series would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the drivers and fans who supported this weekend’s events at Boyd’s Speedway and North Georgia Speedway. There was a lot of weather in the area over the course of the two nights and we thank those that came and supported each night.
The next Volunteer Racing Series events will be a double-header in Kentucky, starting Friday Night June 25th at the Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY for the 15th annual Pete Abell Memorial then the Lake Cumberland Speedway in Burnside, KY on Saturday Night June 26th. Both events pay $3,000 to win.
