running a 355 just need a little more getting pulled out of the corner and down the straights, thinking about a 421 but one guy is running one and is having problems with head gaskets and have heard that is a common problem. would a 383 be better? we run gas also if that makes a difference.
I think his problem can be attributed to several issues. Block, gasket material, assembly methods, etc, etc. There are several 400+ engines around here that are very dependable. Most of them are based on Dart blocks.

Thats about the only kind of motors we have ever ran and never had any trouble with them. 421 and 430 with stock blocks and Dart no head gasket trouble recommend going with 421.
i would look into building something around a 383 before going to a monster motor....key is short stroke and big bore.....assembly methods and tips and tricks help and also the right heads and cam will make or break the motor in any situation.
