View Full Version : Air cleaner and fresh air question

I remember reading a thread on here about keeping the hot air under the hood, and allowing the air cleaner cool air only. I remember it have a picture of someone making an air cleaner box with some stove pipe pliers. But for the life of me can't find it.
Problem is the top of my air cleaner is flush with the hood. We can only run a 1 inch carb spacer, so that won't be enough. Anyone got any tricks to getting it up into some cool air? Or at least know where that other thread is :).

Some of the older chevy pickups had about a 3 inch spacer between the carb and air filter....it will fit a holley.

They make a filter spacer to raise the filter housing up.

Biggest one I have found is 2 inches. I will use one of those and a 1 inch carb spacer.

We have used a 2 inch and a 1 1/2 together. We also had 2 welded together and to the base.

Dont forget they also make the 6" air cleaner versus the 3 and 4 " if you were not using it already..

I have a 4" filter now. I thought about going to a taller filter, but then half of it would still be under the hood. A 2 inch air cleaner riser and a 1 inch carb spacer should be enough.
