After blowing my stock engine at Jacksonville Friday night,I am looking at Gustafs short blocks. Is anyone familiar with their work? I need something that will last the rest of the season turning 7500 rpm. Does anyone run them? Thanks Eddie 25B

I ran a blastoff racing engine last year. Fastest four laps of my life. A rod bolt backed out destroying everything from the oil pan to the valve covers, well I guess I saved the intake. Sent the bolt that backed out to ARP and they determined the bolt had never been torqued or even tightened. Good Luck, hope they remember to tighten all 16 on your motor.

Go to Mullvain! Best engine builder in central illinois. Treats everyone with respect and doesn't use parts that you don't tell him to.

Can't go wrong with Mullins engines. They built mine and rebuilt my dad's, we have no complaints.

Gustaf Is a crook unless you are buddys with him and he knows you ..... Bought a 406 long block and a 377 long block from him a few yrs back and ran them both maybe 20 laps each and blew them up and come to find out he put used parts in them...... Mullvain does good work and Mullins does good work as well .... Affordabilty wise id go to Mullvain !

Its all good if you know a little about engines..known them for years. It's amazing how much can go wrong when an engine leaves the shop but I know this in most cases it's ALWAYS the engine builders fault...lol. It's kinda interesting that this guy up top was only able to salvage the intake and that one lucky rod bolt that happen to make it through:eek:

To update this thread, I bought a TCA (Charleston,Il.)machined and assembled 406ci. at Bloomington show.Jason and Angel are top notch, and I would have no hesitation in buying anything from them in the future.Gustaf was an option, but cant beat TCA!!!!!!

I know 2 different racer in my area that ran blastoff engines this year. both had engine trouble for most of the season one had 4 different motors in his car and ended the season with a new engine builder, the other had ran blastoffs for a few years and he had his engine rebuilt at least 3 times kept loosing oil pressure it finally blew.we had a bobby jacks engine that we used off and on for 12 years it blew this season.we had that motor in everthing from a SS to a limited latemodel and it was in my modified when it blew(broke a piston).

Well here is an Example of a person that has ZERO knowledge of a race engine, how it operates, and obviously how to maintain it.

P.S. WE DONT EVEN SELL LONG BLOCK and never have-- try make up some story's about someone else & try to move out of your parents basement and get a life while your at it.

There is a lot of Gustaf pieces ran here in NE Iowa, they are hard to beat, and the guys that I personally know that run them, have never had an issue after many years of service. Everyone can say this about this guy and that about that guy because of bad results. 9 times out of 10, its because of improper warm up, improper oil viscosity, improper tune, I could go on and on. All I know is, they seem to make great power with minimal problems. Im sure with all the engines they do, there are bound to be a few issues every once in a blue moon just like with any type of manufacturing.
Do your research. Call several builders, ask for their race record. Ask for names of people they have built for, get the engine owners opinions then go from there.

I bought one. Drove down from Michigan to buy one. It didn't make it thru the first test run at the track. I've raced for 40 years. I buy good parts and engines. I've had engine failures. With the exception of the Gustaf engine, all were raced and the failures occurred after we had more than an acceptable number of races on the engine. Mr Gustaf, one practice session is not acceptable.
