View Full Version : Power Steering or Not?

I'm newer to racing and I was wondering if I should keep the power steering in my car. I was considering installing a 2:1 steering quickner if I done away with the power steering. Any thoughts on horsepower gain as well?

With all the new power steer pumps there is little hp loss, If you install that quickener with no power steering, and finish a feature, I would not tell you a thing. "you would have to have arms like hulk hogan" That quickener makes a big difference but without power steer impossible to turn.

I lost power steering last season 3 laps into a 25 lap feature, with a 2:1 quick steer. Not to brag, but I can bench press about 275-300, but by the end of the feature I couldn't lift my arms for about a half hour.so, I say keep it.
If you don't want to buy a racing style pump, speedway makes a bracket for the stock pump. But you have to use a pre-79 pump, or weld a bolt on the metric pump.

I started with a manual rack... unless I'm in the top 3 of a race I'll pull it in if my powersteering goes out.
Never drove a car with power steering until we built my son a bomber car it makes the car easier to drive at slow speeds but makes the car too darty for me I think it may hurt beginning drivers as they get to sawing on wheel he has spun himself out on 2 occasions doing that, If front split is right on caster car will lead its self in corner any way I am not a fan of it right now any way
