I agree Jeffro Tim should be remembered by nascar but as you said they wont mention him because they think they are to good for that ... But i agree again that they didnt and still dont mind making money off of him .... Im sure this will be a good documentary to watch and Tim will always be remembered by those who knew him and remembered him.... ;)

Tim was a great driver. I'm 37 and remember him well. I can remember this one time (at band camp, lol) that my dad took me to BIR and we went into the pits after the race to get autographs and Tim was standing there signing everything possible and kissing all of the ladies and saying that he could stay here all night. RIP Tim Richmond

OMG! Thanks for the info Jeffro! I will put this on my calendar.
I sure miss him! I don't think Earnhardt or Petty would have the number of championships they have had he lived on.

Tim Richmond was one of the best driving talents to ever come into nascar.
The way nascar handled the situation concerning his illness, was wrong.
King won his seventh championship in 1979 and Tim didn't run a NASCAR race until mid-season 1980 (Pocono) after winning ROY for the Indianapolis 500 in May of 1980. Given the timeline I have serious doubts as to whether Tim would have deprived King of a championship or two. Now ironhead, that's another story, but as deep as ironhead and RCR had NASCAR in their pocket it would have been very tough to deprive ironhead/RCR of one of those championships they supposedly won. Just ask Mark Martin.

Just a championship or two? I think they mean more than "just a championship" to the drivers.
Richard Petty's last win was in 1984. Might of had something to with the competition..................Tim was 3rd in points in 1986. That was the year Dale won the championship and fine year of racing! Those were the days.

No, sir, I hadn't heard, and I can't wait! Its long over due!
Since King's last championship was in 1979, the year before Tim ran his first NASCAR race, it would have been impossible for Tim to have deprived King of any one of his 7 championships. Now ironhead might have been another story if Tim had kept competing, although NASCAR's fair haired boy in the 3 car was always well looked after by the sanctioning body. Like I said before, ask Mark Martin!
I always admired Tim for have the stones to get in a supermodified and an Indy car, something ironhead or King either one ever wanted to do. I remember well Johnny Rutherford, winner of the 1980 Indy 500, giving Tim a ride back to Gasoline Ally on the side pod of his winning car after the checkered flag fell and something happened to Tim's car before he could get it back to the pits.

Tim was a great driver. Watched him several times when they made the stops in Atlanta or Talledega.
I think Tim, Davey Allison, Alan Kulwicki, and Adam Petty are some of NASCAR's biggest "What if...." drivers.

Tim would have given Dale Sr. a run for his money had he been able to continue his racing career in Nascar. He was one of those drivers like Tony Stewart he could drive anything.

CIRF - Instead of running your mouth, please bring facts to the table. Why do you give the impression Martin was screwed out of a championship? IF you are referring to a 46 point penalty he received in 90 thats laughable. They had the wrong spacer on, period. If it was really meant to be, he would of salvaged the other 26 points to get ole Earnhardt in the end. He didnt. End of story. Oh maybe you are referring to 1994 where he finished 2nd to Earnhardt another time. Oh wait...that was a 400+ point deficit. Hmmmm Im sure he got screwed their too? With your post are u implying the other THREE times martin ran 2nd in the points to other drivers he was screwed out of that too?
Look, everybody has opinions...I get it. But please, at least try to give respect to great racecar drivers accomplishments...even if they may not be your favorite driver.

Those other drivers mentioned would have cut into De`s win total and
probably kept J Gordon in Busch for another year or so ..
FYI
Richard Petty has 2/3 of his STOMACH removed in the winter of 79....
my Mom had that done and they fed her through a tube to her lower
intestine until she died..
Richard survived & raced from 80 on w just on buttermilk & rice...
12 years..

Actually, it was December 1978 when the King had 40% of his stomach removed, and came back in Feb. ( 2 months later ) and won Daytona and his final Winston Cup Title. Glad you brought this up as I was thinking the same thing. Richards last win in 84. He was 47. Age caught up with the King, not Tim Richmond.

And Jan 1st ...it was 1979...& still winter where I live...
THE POINT is...
the last 12 years he was a very sick man ...he use dto be a big man...
stongest handshake I have ever had...
the photos of him coming out of the car at Darlington signaled the begining
of the end of him being competitive...
that & the 81 Dodge Magnum...what a rocketship those were..
Time & circumstance my friend....
Lots of girls got into the Church round Charlotte after Tim`s passing....
Some still give thanks..

Not to take sides or defend NASCAR, because I can't stand them, but it was the 80's. AIDS was the new epidemic and nobody knew exactly what to do with it at that time, I personally don't think the media or the government is handling it right now, but thats another story. As far as Tim changing the stats on Petty, the only thing he may have altered was the total wins, but not championships. He may have caused Dale to win a few less and No I don't think RCR had NASCAR in their pocket back then. Tim was an outstanding talent and I miss him and often ponder the, "what might have been's" the same way I think of Duayne Hommel. In Tim's case as well as some others I look at it as a reminder of how important all the choices we make in life can and do effect our future... Oh yeah, I'm 40 and I remember watching him race very well.

I agree Dale wouldn't of hit 7 titles however Petty's last title was in 1979 2 years before Tim drove Cup cars

It will be interesting to see how Nascar/espn will handle his story. He certainly had away with the ladies, saw him at Martinsville in the old milwalkee car and he must have had 200 women following him after the race. It was a mob. He was not as responsible as he should have been even after he was diagnossed with aids. I agree it was adifferent time and all parties envolved wasn't sure how to deal with his sickness. I have a clock made from one of the Winston posters where he exposed himself behind Neil Bonnets ear, the Cole Trickle character on days of thunder was based on his example, He raced hard and lived even harder and it caught up with him. He reminded me of a modern day Curtis Turner. Such a loss, he was one of the best drivers though and would have won his share.
