I'm wanting to run a big race at Susquahana speedway in Pa. in october, and I'm wondering what gear to run. 3/8 mile dirt. semi tight turns, slightly banked. Any info would be appreciated. I saw a classified ad on they're web sight for a car that runs there and he says he's running 6.89, does that sound right. We've only run 1/2 & 1/4 mile.

I would think more around a 5.83 to 6.00.

depends on motor, weight, tires.. i run 3/8 tight corner medium bank decent bite on american racer late model tires 2800# 358" 7.00 gears, guys are generally running anything from 6.50 - 7.33, never been to susquehana but it sounds similar to what i call home...

600 gear . in a stocker . thats your best bet. if you have a high RPM motor try a 6.89 or 700 but will need to stay in the gas.on the outside an hope you start in front
600 will give you a little bottom end off the corner, an run out some wear before going in to the corner . good luck

how would less gear give you more bottom end off the corner ? you are completely backwards, lack of gear would be around the outside keeping it wound up... too much gear would give you more off the corner and run out in the straight, my experience 6.33 is about the best bet for an always driveable gear, again depends on tire and motor, if you are running a 415 with dot tires you might want a 5.83, however im thinking you are prolly on emod tires assuming you around 3100# i would think 6.20ish with a 406 and 6.66ish with a 355

Thanks for the help. I do run emod tires, and a 355, 3000#. My best guess was going to be around 6.30. While standing in the turns last week, we noticed how early they roll off and kinda let the car float threw and bring it off the bottom. I may need a little more to get up off. If we can we're gonna trry to get one race in before the big one. Again thanks for all the help.

I only want to turn about 6000 - 6200. My engine has good low end, and I don't like to get it into the r's to high.

I have a 355 with a fairly stock replacement bottom end. I run a track in Western Kentucky that sounds pretty similar to the one you run. My car weighs about 3500 with 255/60 tires. I normally turn 6400 to 6500 with a 6.20 gear. I think that I have plenty to get me out of the corners and down the straight away. The straighaway ends before I run out of gear or motor. My brother runs a 6.50 with 275/60 tires and he turns about the same rpm, may just 6600 tops. Hope it helps.
