UFo Race Championship Tracks & Sponsors Release 2010 Point Bonus Funds to Drivers!
(MARS PA) – Less than one month after the completion of the 2010 racing season, the UFo Race Championship tracks and sponsors are distributing point bonus funds to the top 10 drivers in the point standings.
The UFo Race Championship points bonus payoff is the highest in the 3-year history of the tour, totalling $17,500. The solid point fund was made possible through sponsorships from Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic of Finksburg, MD, Roaring Springs PA and Saxonburg, PA, Lias Tire/American Racer of Indiana, PA and Townsend Gas & Oil VP Distributor at Homer City, PA and contributions of the tracks. While the total point fund may appear to be moderate in size on the surface, it is being funded without the use of entry fees to the races teams. The elimination of entry fees at UFo Race Championship events saved race teams a total of $25,000 in 2010, which translations to an additional $42,500 put into the hands of race teams in comparison to similar entry-fee events. UFo Race Championship event payoffs totalled over $300,000 during the season in addition to the points bonus.
The 2010 chase for the UFo Race Championship was a excellent points battle throughout the season with one of the closest finishes in history! Chad McClellan of Stoystown, PA won the 2010 UFo Race Championship by just 1 point over Keith Barbara of South, Park PA. Both drivers traded the points lead throughout the season with the final race of the season determining the champion.
Chad McClellan, of Stoystown, PA turned his 1st flight on the UFo tour into the 2010 championship. The road to the championship provided some obstacles for McClellan but he proved to withstand the challenges. With mid-season motor issues, McClellan competed in several events using a motor from Ron Delano as well as a car from Dave Graber. Persistence paid off with several top finishes during 2010 UFo events at Roaring Knob, Tyler County and Dog Hollow. When the final checker flew on the 2010 season at “The Ultimate” at Roaring Knob, McClellan came out on top of the UFo point standings by just 1 point!
McClellan won almost $13,000 in UFo competition including $4,940 for the 2010 Championship. Keith Barbara of South Park, PA has not only attended every UFo event since its inception. Barbara has been slated to start in every UFo feature to date, only missing two starts due to mechanical problems. After finishing 3rd in the 2008 and 2009 standings, Barbara, advanced into 2nd in the final 2010 points. Strong finishes at Mercer, Tyler County and PPMS kept Barbara in the hunt for the championship throughout the season. Barbara won a wild $2,000 non-points tune-up “Gold Rusher” feature during the “Tri-Star Pittsburgher” weekend at PPMS from the 17th starting position. Barbara also has 1 UFo points win as he captured the $7,000 to win 2008 “Yankee Doodle.”

John Mollick of Toronto, OH finished 3rd on the 2010 UFo Tour, with 1 win in 2010 at PPMS during the “F-2 Shockwave.” That marked Mollicks 2nd all-time win on the tour as he won “Mega-Blitz 2009” at Roaring Knob last year. Mollick finished 2nd in the 2009 UFo points standings. Mollick won over $9,000 in 2010 with $2,440 in bonus money. Danny Mitchell from Clarksburg, WV joined the UFo tour in 2010 and finished 4th in the points standings. 2010 marked the 1st time that WV drivers have earned top 10 point finishes in UFo competition, with Mitchell being the highest ranked of the 3 that earned those honors. Mitchell’s sponsors include Bill's Bit Service, Doug's Towing and Terry Johnson & Associates. Mitchell will receive $1,990 for his 4th place finish with total winnings for 2010 of over $5,600.
Tommy Beck of Jeannette, PA made his 1st run on the tour in 2010. Beck, who spends time racing dirt and asphalt late models throughout the season, ventured out the majority of the dirt tracks on the UFo tour for his first time ever. Beck had several strong runs at those new tracks, putting him 5th in the 2010 UFo Race Championship. Beck will receive $1,440 point bonus money for his efforts, with total 2010 UFo winnings of almost $6,500.
