Appalachian Mountain Late Model Speedweek Releases 2011 Schedule & Prepares for 3rd Annual Weeklong Event.

After a successful 2010 Speedweek, work began right away to insure that the weeklong event keeps moving forward with the purpose of benefiting the participating speedways, fans & Speedweek competitors alike.

As soon as the ceremony crowning York, Pennsylvania’s Rick Eckert the 2010 Speedweek Champion ended, the staff went right back to work and started planning for the 3rd annual Speedweek which will take place during its traditional first full week in June. “Everything is coming together great” said Bedford Speedway Promoter and Speedweek Founder J.R. Keifer. “We have a lot of great things in the works; as a group, we strive to make each Speedweek better than the previous year. One of the things we needed to address was the travel back and forth with our schedule. Winchester agreed to move to Sunday and we welcome Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex to the schedule. We feel this should cut down on some mileage that the competitors endured the past two years” said JR. “All the tracks are really excited to be a part of this series as it grows. There is a lot of excitement at Port Royal and its new management team stated right away that they wanted to still be a part of this week. We would really like to thank Charlie Paige and his staff at Selinsgrove. I can’t think of anyone that worked harder for our shows. They always ran the night before and pretty much worked all night to get the speedway & grounds ready. We just felt the biggest concern we heard for our competitors was the travel back and forth and had to address that” added Keifer.

“We looked at many different options and we felt that this schedule flows the best with what we wanted to accomplish, which was cut down on the back and forth travel for our competitors” said Director of Competition Kurt Smith. “We are also tweaking our qualifying point system a little. I think it will work better towards a more competitive point battle for the championship and not penalize competitors for a bad qualifying pill draw. We try to listen to what our competitors are saying and if we feel it makes sense for the series overall we try to adjust. We’re always looking to make the Appalachian Mountain Speedweek better for everyone involved” added Smith.

For the 3rd straight year Maryland’s Hagerstown Speedway will once again play host to the first race of the week as the Speedweek takes the green flag on Saturday June 4th, followed by stops at Winchester (VA), Roaring Knob (PA), Williams Grove (PA), Lincoln (PA), Port Royal (PA) and Pennsylvania’s Bedford Speedway where the series champion will be crowned on Friday June 10th. The champion will take home the lion’s share of a guaranteed point fund that will pay the top 8 drivers in the weeklong series point standing. Each race will climax with a 40 lap, $5,000 to win feature. Shearer Custom Speed Time Trials will lead into the Keizer Aluminum Wheels qualifying heat races. B-Main(s) will round out the starting line-ups for the night’s main event.

June 12th for rain date? Is this because of a regular show running June 11th?
