I have a question on a starter, 2.3 ford, one starter has 9 teeth and one has 10 teeth, flywheel has 134 teeth, the starter with 9 teeth keeeps eating the flywheel ring gear off. what are the normal number of teeth on a ford 2.3 starter and the number of teeth on a 2.3 flywheel, called advanced auto parts and all the show for a 2.3 is a flywheel with 132 teeth, what are other mini stocks running, tired of replacing starters and ring gears, thanks in advance

FIRST- you MUST use the flex plate between the bell housing and the block.
SECOND- Starter numbers from Auto Zone-1975 year part number DLG 3148---
1982 or later DLG 3191.
THIRD- figure out what year flywheel you have and match the starter to the flywheel.
Again, you MUST run the flex plate or it will eat up any starter (or flywheel) you put on it.

I know about the flexplate, and allways use it,just looking for any info on starter-flywheel combinations, the flywheel I have been using is 134 teeth and the starter is 9 tooth and been having alot of problems with it, I heard that most racing flywheels have 135 teeth and the 9 and 10 tooth starter will work on this flywheel, just looking for some info on what number of teeth sterter goes with what number of teeth flywheel.

From Auto Zone---1974 Pinto or Mustang 2.3-Flywheel part Nr.- FW168
82 Mustang 2.3 flywheel part Nr.- 704(has 132 teeth)
(these are two different flywheels. Get correct starter for year of flywheel)
check Auto Zone and see how many teeth a 1974 starter has and how many a 1982 has.the 1982 starter will NOT work on an early model flywheel. Should be simple to figure out....
