Wanting to get some input on different engine combos people have ran, built or etc.
Did they work well? what type of car and track? looking more at IMCA style stock cars with 350 holley
Please post Cubic inch, Deck Height, Stroke, Bore, Rod Length, Piston Dome Vol.(cc), Pin Height, and Head intake and exh cc.

Any other info would be great too. The More specific the better although I know some people wont want to share everything.
I am wanting to build something different but not sure what and also curious about all the engine combos people are building. Thanks in advance

from my experiance on the track and the dyno a good 406 works best. i have had a few combos not work. one was a dome 406. large domes and 15 to 1 compression and it had less power and torque than my flat top 406's with angle milled heads and 14 to 1 compression. also a tried a short stoke motor..a 377. p.o.s no torque but made alot of noise from rpm..lol. keep with a longer stroke and long rod to keep the piston lightweight. if you wanna try something different try a 3.875 or 4.00 stroke in a 350 block. i've never done it but i think it would pull good in a heavy stockcar.
fwiw i race 1/4 to 1/2 miles tacky to dry.

Give me a call to discuss engine options. We're an engine shop located in central Illinois. I'd throw some ideas out there but it usually just turns into an argument on these boards between a bunch of know-it-alls that use plastigage to measure bearing clearances and only refer to lift when discussing camshafts. For some straight talk give me a call at 217-827-3094. Later, Greg

406 5.7 rod vortec head 11.8-1 works great on 1/4 mile.
408 6" rod 4" stroke 4.040 bore dart heads ported by harrys heads 14.9-1 works great on 3/8 mile or bigger.
377 6" rod dart heads ported 13.9-1 180 heads three differnt cams still sucks on any track.
383 6" rod dart heads ported 13.5-1 works ok at any track
All motors have the 2701 intake including the vortec headed motor. 350 cfm gauge legal. 6200 to 6500 rpm.

Heavy cars need stroke and cubes to move them. 383/396/406 etc. if built right will do the job each one being a little different in the rpm ranges they can run with a 350cfm carb. The power is in the heads/cam/compression.
