Billy Moyer Jr. Gets Biggest Wins of His Career
Batesville, Arkansas (01/08/11) – Billy Moyer Jr. served notice on Saturday afternoon in the opener for the 5th Annual Wild West Shootout at USA Raceway (Tucson, AZ) that he means business as he powered his #21jr Victory Circle M1 Chassis By Moyer/Bullock Racing Engine Super Late Model to a dominant, $3,000 win.
Billy opened the 2011 season with a bang by topping a talented field of 49 competitors to claim his first win of the year and his first ever Wild West Shootout victory on Saturday afternoon at USA Raceway in Tucson, Arizona.
Billy started the day by blasting from his second starting position to a heat race win, which earned him a spot in the redraw for the feature. In the redraw Billy drew the third starting spot, and that is where he started on the grid for the 30 lap, $3,000 to win feature. Early in the feature Moyer Jr. would battle for third before sliding as far back as the fifth position. However, as the race progressed, Billy's car began to come to him, and on a lap 20 restart he would blast past leader, Jeremy Payne, on the low side to claim the win. Over the remainder of the event, Moyer Jr. would motor away to win by over a straightaway. The victory came over Payne, Jimmy Mars, Bub McCool, and Ronny Lee Hollingsworth. Even though the winner’s purse was not the biggest of his career (biggest win was a $5,000 triumph in the 2010 Bama Brawl at North Alabama Speedway), Moyer Jr. commented that mentally this was his biggest win. “To beat this field of cars means so much for me and my team. This was really something special to us,” commented the 23 year old driver.
Billy will be in pursuit of his second straight win as the series continues on Sunday night, January 9th with a $5,000 to win event. The remaining schedule for the series consists of the following dates:
