does anyone know where I can find info on the "tall" deck 2.3 blocks? I need to know what they came in and how much taller they are and if they are small or large journal. Thanks

The blocks from the factory were 16mm taller in the deck but more importantly can be bored just over 4.00".

Since they quit making them years ago most are gone the few that are left are rare to find.

The all of the blocks were large journal.

Jim....... don't know if the following is what you're looking for, and I'm not the expert, but this comes off my 'SVO - Engine Building Tips & Specifications'. The 'standard' 2.3L OHC block(1974-1995) shows a bore of 3.780", stroke 3.126", main-journal diameter 2.3986", rod-journal diameter 2.0468", and a deck-height(crank-centerline-to-deck) of 8.368". Then there's the 2.3L HSC block(1984-1994) with above corresponding specifications of 3.680"/3.300"/2.2489"/2.1236" with a deck-height of 8.700". But the HSC may not be the block you're referencing because the 2.3L OHC shows a bore-spacing of 4.173", while the 2.3L HSC shows a bore-spacing of 4.080"? Now I'm REALLY confused! When Esslinger was selling the 'tall-deck', was that a 'production' block? -Dave-

the tall deck block was never released in a vehicle from Ford. it was a SVO option you could purchase. many years ago i had one,and i sold it way too cheap($500),i never did check the bore,i was sure it was the same 3.780 bore as a standard 2.3 block.

The 2.3 HSC was the block they used in the Tempo,Topaz,Escort,etc...the "pushrod" 2.3

And Dave,after 1989 the main journal size decreased to 2.21"(SJ) from 2.39"(LJ)

esslinger is coming out with new version of block this spring. They are taking deposits on them.
