I have a 1985 mustang that I am thinking of using in our local factory stock class. I was wondering if any of you have done this, and if you have any suggestions on spring rates front and rear? Thanks in advance

Well got the car together and running. I am still wondering if anyone can help with starting spring setup? I have cut the front springs and by the calculations I have run they should be around 590# each. I am thinking I can run spacers to increase from there. The way the rear springs are made I am not sure if I can cut them. Does anyone else know, or can I just run spacers there to. First race is this weekend and some help in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. I have also got 4 Hoosier 970 asphalt take off tires. Two are 26.5 and two are 27. I was thinking 27 on the right and 26.5 on the left. Also starting tire pressure would help. Please help.

Thank You

Are you allowed racing springs?

It is a mustang. Yes we are allowed racing springs just can't afford any right now. So was wondering what I could do to make the stock ones work. Wheel base is 100 1/2 inches and has to weigh in at 3300#

Is it because it is a mustang that no one has any info. ? Just curious.

ok some insight. The mustang 4 cyl springs are the lightest you can get factory wise. Second comes the straight 6 springs, v6, v8 LX springs then the stiffest is the V8 GT springs with AC. I drag race Stangs btw. The rear springs are either LX notch back, or the hatch back and hatch back GT springs, softest and heavy in order. You will have to test each one and see what you come up with as I dont remember the rates. Most rear springs for one reason or another wear out pretty quick when dealing with used ones. Forward bite is easy with these cars, urethane bushings on the rear mounts is a must. Lowering the rear lower bars at the rearend also changes the cars instant center pretty easily and really puts drive in the car. MAKE SURE to reinforce the rear torque boxes as they are a weak link and take a good pounding! Good luck !
