CARTERSVILLE, GA – The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series will host its Annual Awards Banquet this Saturday night at the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel at 499 East Main Street in Cartersville, GA beginning at 7 p.m. The Top 10 drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National Tour and the Top 3 drivers in the two Weekly Racing Series Regions will be honored.

There will also other special awards handed out that include the VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year Award, the GM Performance Parts Hard Charger of the Year Award, The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Promoter of the Year Award and the NeSmith Chevrolet Chassis Manufacturer of the Year Award. There will also be a new annual special award that will be announced the night of the banquet.

Eric Cooley of Fulton, MS will pick up $20,000 out of the $50,000 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National point fund for winning his second straight series Championship. The 19-year-old driver had two wins, 14 top five finishes, 21 top ten finishes, and one fast time in 21 starts driving the 78 Towing and Recovery Special.

“Cool Whip” was also the only driver during the 2010 season that completed all 975 laps of NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series competition on the National Tour. Cooley’s season earnings, including his point fund check totaled $38,625.

Larry Harrod of Plains, GA will receive the VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year Award and a check for $5,000. Harrod finished fourth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National point standings with two wins, seven top fives, 11 top tens and two fast times in 20 starts driving the Harrod Logging Special.

With the VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year Award and a check for $4,500 out of the National point fund, “The Big Tree” earned a total of $24,595 during the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring season.

Johnny Stokes of Columbus, MS will be honored as the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion after posting 13 wins, 28 top fives, and 30 top tens in 33 starts driving the TJC Mortgage/Maximum Signs and Graphics GRT.

Stokes was also the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model Champion at Columbus Speedway and Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS. “Dr. Dirt” will also pick up a $1,000 check for finishing tenth in the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National point standings where he had one win, five top fives, seven top tens, and two fast times in 12 starts.

Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL will be honored as the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region Champion after turning in six wins, 28 top fives, and 30 top tens in 31 starts driving the Edge’s Gas Company Special. Edge was also the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model Champion at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL.

Both experience and youth was served through both NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Regional Champions. At 56-years-old, Stokes is the oldest Weekly Racing Series Regional Champion, and at 17-year-old, Edge is the youngest Weekly Racing Series Regional Champion.

Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA will receive an extra $1,000 for winning the 2010 GM Performance Parts Hard Charger of the Year Award. Turner passed the most cars during the 21-race 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring season.

Turner finished second the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National point standings with one win, nine top fives and 19 top ten finishes driving the Turner Excavating Special. Turner’s season earning that includes the GM Performance Parts Hard Charger Award and $7,000 out of the point fund will total $21,775.

Known as the “Ironman” of the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series, Turner extended his streak of consecutive races in the series to 107. Turner is the only driver to compete in every National event the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS has held since the series inception in 2005.

Mike Boland of Boland Performance in Cuba, AL will pick up the NeSmith Chevrolet National and Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Championships on behalf of Trak-Star Race Cars. Trak-Star Race Cars is the first chassis manufacturer to win both championships in the same season.

Justin McRee of Tuscaloosa, AL will pick up a pair of awards for finishing third in the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National points with one win, five top fives, ten top tens and one fast time in 21 starts driving the Century Dedicated, Inc. Trak-Star. “J-Mac” was also the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Runner-Up with nine wins, 18 top fives, and 19 top tens in 21 starts.

The drivers that finished fifth through nine in the National point standings, Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS, “Chargin’ Charlie” Henderson of Cottondale, AL, Chris McElhenney of Lake, MS, Michael Blount of Sumrall, MS, and Marcus Minga of Shannon, MS respectively, will also be honored for their accomplishments on the National Tour during the 2010 season.

Terrance Nowell of Phenix City, AL will pick up the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region Runner-Up Award. The “Phenix City Assassin” had four wins, 14 top fives and 16 top tens in 16 starts driving the Clarence’s Truck Repair GRT. “Flyin’ Ryan” King of Anniston, AL will be awarded for finishing third in the East Region points with nine top fives and 23 top tens in 24 starts driving the True Bond Masonry Special.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Annual Awards Banquet will culminate a week of announcements for the series as they will announce their 2011 National Touring schedule, announce their Contingency Sponsors for 2011, name the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Promoter of the Year, and announce the new special award and its recipient.
