View Full Version : Oil scraper, thickness?

I'm going to fab an oil scraper to pull the oil off the rotating assembly. Sheet steel, what thickness do you recommend? I figure that aluminum has a fatigue factor that I don't want to deal with, so sheet steel it is.

I have 2, they are probably 14 or 16 gauge steel, they are fairly thick.

I used .030 aluminum. No "fatigue factor" here.

thanks for the replies guys. The reason I mention a fatigue factor is that I'm sure they vibrate, thus they have a life, no?

They probably do have a shorter life than steel. But it's pretty short from the pan rail to the crank (maybe around an inch) so there's not much movement there at all. I used the same one for 3 years in the same motor.
