AC delco has recently redesigned thier oil filters. I know a lot of guys run the PF1218 oil filter on their engines. One of the redesigns have been to the inside of the retainer that keeps the filter media from colapsing in on itself. The old design use to be a round cylinder of metal with small holes in it. The new design has a nylon cage that holds the filter media to the outside of the can. I have used the old style filter for years on bomber and street stock type cars and never had any issues.
I used one of the new designed filters on a new motor recently and had the inside colaspe on itself and starve the engine of oil. SO if you are using this filter in my opnion it is a ticking time bomb. The best bet is to get one that was designed for racing. I hope this saves someones engine.
