DAYTONA BEACH, FL – NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Competition and Technical Director Tim Sims participated in two different seminars on Tuesday as a part of the 38th Annual RPM Promoter’s Workshop at the Daytona Beach Hilton Oceanside Hotel. The series also has a display at the workshop that runs through Wednesday.

Sims was on a Tech Panel with American Speed Association Technical Director Michael “Lumpy” Lemke. The pair told promoters about proper technical inspection procedures involving the GM Performance Crate Engines and the latest technology involving the policing of treated tires. Sims and Lemke then interacted with the short track promoters in a Question and Answer session.

Bill Martens of GM Performance Parts then addressed the Workshop with the latest news and progress of the GM Performance Parts Crate Engine Program, and asked Sims to assist with that seminar to lend his experience in the field with the engines that have been used in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series since 2005.

NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series promoters and personnel were represented during the RPM Promoter’s Workshop Technical seminars with Promoter Kevin Coffey of Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN along with Promoter Freddie McCall, Micah McCall, and Technical Director Tim Wood of Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL in attendance.

“I think the information we were able to give to the promoters was informative and useful,” Sims said. “There were some very good questions asked during the seminar, and even after it was over, I stayed around for another 30 minutes answering more questions the promoters had.”

Sims, NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Founder and Director Mike Vaughn, and series President of Operations and Communications Roby Helm all manned the series’ display booth at the RPM Promoter’s Workshop. They were on hand to introduce the promoters in attendance to the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series and explain the benefits the series has to offer to weekly dirt tracks and their competitors.

“We could see a future geographical expansion of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series with the interest we received at the RPM Promoter’s Workshop,” Helm said. “We talked to short track promoters from Canada, New York, Indiana, Illinois, and Texas that had heard about the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series and were interested in learning more about it.”

Several short track promoters affiliated with the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series have received awards at past RPM Promoter’s Workshops. Lynn Phillips and Alfred Gurley of Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL are former RPM National Promoters of the Year, and last year Rodney Wing of Whynot Motorsports Park along with Al Varnadore and Todd Hutto of East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL won RPM Regional Promoter of the Year Awards.
