Bub McCool Florida Speedweeks Wrap-Up

Vicksburg, MS (02/16/11) – Bub McCool recently completely the Florida Speedweeks in his #57J McCool Logging/Victory Circle M1 Chassis By Moyer/Jay (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)ens Racing Engine Super Late Model as he entered seven races in seven days.

After seeing all of the Georgia Speedweek events canceled by rain, Bub struggled during the opening rounds of the 35th Annual DART Winternationals at East Bay Raceway Park. However, as the week progressed, Bub began to gain momentum and went on to record three top ten runs plus a top ten rain in the February 13th event at Ocala Speedway (Ocala, Florida).

Below is a blog-style recap of McCool’s Speedweek performances:
February 8th, 2011 - After seeing Monday night's opener at East Bay nixed by rain, Bub entered the official opener for Speedweeks 2011 on Tuesday night with a $5,000 to win event. Sixty-four Super Late Models entered the event, and the night started well as Bub was sixth fastest in his group to earn the outside front row starting spot for the third heat race. However, he would battle the setup in his heat race, and as a result would slip to a fifth place finish. Via his heat finish he started deep in a b-main and would fail to reach a transfer spot to the feature, bringing his night to an early end.

February 9th, 2011 - Wednesday night found another $5,000 to win event held at East Bay Raceway (Tampa, Florida). Another stout field of 62 Super Late Models entered the event, and for the second straight night Bub found himself behind the eight ball as he finished 5th in his heat race, which sent him to a b-main. Early in the b-main, McCool advanced to the third and final transfer position, and would hold the spot for much of the race before a late restart saw Donnie Moran slip by for the final transfer spot, leaving Bub short of transferring to the feature.

February 11th, 2011 - After seeing Thursday's show fall victim to rain, McCool Motorsports entered a double header on Friday at East Bay Raceway Park (Tampa, Florida). In time trials, Bub qualified third fastest to earn the pole for his heat. In the heat he would slip to a third place finish, which earned him the 17th starting spot for the feature event. In the feature, he would mount a run through the pack on a surface where most drivers found passing to be difficult. By the time the checkered flag dropped, Bub was credited with a strong fifth place finish behind race winner, Billy Moyer, Don O'Neal, Scott Bloomquist, and Wendell Wallace.

In the nighttime program, which was headlined by a $10,000 to win event, Bub's luck would not be as good. On a poor racing serious, he would struggle in qualifying and would start deep in his heat race. He would only advance a few spots in heat race action, which sent him to the b-main, where he failed to earn a transfer, bringing his afternoon to an end.

February 12th, 2011 - Bub concluded his East Bay Raceway Park Speedweek venture on Saturday with a double header. The day started with a $10,000 to win event, which drew a field of 58 cars. After starting third in his heat, McCool overcame a battle with early leader, Josh Richards, to claim the win and the sixth starting spot for the main event.

In the feature, Bub would battle around the top early in the event before finding a new line through turns one and two that allowed him to begin to advance through the front runners. With ten laps to go Bub began to apply heavy pressure to Eddie Carrier Jr. and Austin Hubbard. A few laps later McCool would race past the duo to claim second, and he would go on to chase race winner, Jimmy Owens, to the checkers.

After the strong morning run, McCool was eager for the night show, which posted a $12,000 winner's share and served as the finale. Sixty-one Super Late Models entered the event, and Bub started third in his heat race. Early in the heat race, Bub would slip back as far as the fourth position before charging past Davey Johnson to claim the third position to earn a transfer spot to the feature. In the main event, Bub started 15th and would spend much of the event around mid-pack before advancing to an 8th place finish to conclude the series on a high note.

February 13th, 2011 - McCool Motorsports made their first ever trip to Ocala Speedway (Ocala, Florida) on Sunday night for an $8,000 to win, UMP sanctioned event. With 36 Super Late Models on hand, Bub started the night by winning his heat race to lock into the second starting spot for the main event. After starting alongside Brad Neat, Bub grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag. He would lead the first 13 laps before Austin Hubbard and Josh Richards slipped past him. On a very rough track, tires began to become an issue by the race's midway point. Bub would move back to the second spot, but as the field came to the white flag, his right rear tire exploded forcing him to slow to bring out the caution. He would get a fresh tire and would tag the back of the field. He would bounce back to a 7th place finish at the checkered flag.

Bub McCool is currently assembling a new car will be returning to action on February 25th-26th at Ark-La-Tex Speedway with the 1st Annual Pelican 100.
