STARS Midwest Dirt Racing League Releases 2011 Schedule

SOMERSET, KY (February 25, 2011)—Officials with the STARS Midwest Dirt Racing League presented by Arizona Sport Shirts are pleased to announce the schedule for the newly formed 15-race dirt Late Model tour.

The series opens on Friday Night April 22 where Brandon Hardgrove has recently taken over the promotional reigns of Friday Night racing at the Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY. The STARS MDRL Late Models will race during the 4th Annual Chris Estes/Brad Pena Memorial race that will pay $3,000 to win. The series will then move to Hardgrove’s Lake Cumberland Speedway in Burnside, KY on Saturday Night April 23rd for a 40-lap $3,000 to win event.

The series will race the very next Friday Night April 29th at the Rocky Top Raceway in Coal Grove, OH for a 50-lap $5,000 to win event at the T.J. Layne promoted facility. The series will be off the next night in support of the CLASSIC race at the KC Raceway in Chillicothe, OH.

The series will have a couple of weeks off before returning to the Ponderosa Speedway on May 20th for the 12th Annual Hugh ‘Junebug’ Rowland Memorial race which will pay $3,000 to win. Then on Saturday Night May 21st the MDRL Late Models will roll back into Lake Cumberland Speedway for the Coca-Cola 40, $3,000 to win event.

A few more weeks off will bring the STARS MDRL Late Models and its sister series the STARS Volunteer Racing Series (VRS) together for a pair of $3,000 to win events. On Friday Night June 24th both STARS’ sanctioned tours will face off at the Ponderosa Speedway for the 16th Annual Pete Abell Memorial. On Saturday Night June 25th each series will race together at the Lake Cumberland Speedway during the annual ‘Border Wars’ event.

On Friday Night July 1st the STARS MDRL and STARS VRS will face off once again this time on the Tennessee side of the Border at Mike Kittrell’s Wartburg Speedway in Wartburg, TN, as $7,500 will be up for grabs in the winner’s share that night. The series will have a couple of nights off before heading back to Ohio to Rocky Top Raceway for the 4th of July special on Monday July 4th. Details of the purse will be released shortly.

The series will be off the next few weeks for several reasons, in support of the NASCAR race at Kentucky Speedway and then the next two weeks for Ray Cook’s Southern Nationals Series.

The series will be back in action on July 29th at the Moler Raceway Park in Williamsburg, OH for a 40-lap $3,000 to win race then on Saturday Night July 30th the series will race at the Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, OH for another $3,000 to win show.

The next Saturday the series will visit the Bluegrass Speedway in Bardstown, KY for the series’ second $5,000 to win show of the season and the 13th Annual running of the Bluegrass 50.

The series will be off until Friday August 19 for the running of the 9th Annual John Bradshaw Memorial at the Ponderosa Speedway then on Saturday August 20 at the Lake Cumberland Speedway for the final time of the season and the running of the 3rd Annual Harold Hardgrove Memorial race.

The series’ final event of the season is tentatively scheduled for Saturday Night September 3rd at the Joey and Tiffany Tackett promoted Richmond Raceway in Richmond, KY for the 2nd Annual Stars and Stripes 40 paying $3,000 to win for the STARS Volunteer Racing Series and STARS Midwest Dirt Racing League Late Models.
