Bluegrass Speedway Ready for Racing Season with Test and Tune on Saturday April 9
Bardstown, KY-March 5, 2011- Bluegrass Speedway will begin its 17th season of dirt track sports entertainment with the upcoming 2011 season and track promoters David and Anita Ferrell will begin their 12th season at helm of the ½ mile high-banked clay oval. With the slogan of “Where It’s Always Showtime”, the track will present a 17 event schedule, including an open test and tune practice night for all divisions of Saturday April 9.
The season opener for the 17th season of racing action at Bluegrass Speedway will take the green flag one week later on Saturday April 16 with a complete program of racing competition featuring Super Late Models, UMP Modifieds, UMP Sportsman, and UMP Street Stocks.
The Super Late Model division will again see several extra money events over the course of the 2011 season. The first big Super Late Model event will take place on Saturday April 30 at the World of Outlaws Late Model Series will visit Bluegrass Speedway for the 9th Annual My Old Kentucky Home Shootout, paying $10,000 to the winner. The National All Star Racing Association will sanction the next special event on Saturday May 28, with the running of the 14th Annual Spring Sizzler, paying $3,000 to win. The 10th Annual June Jam goes on Saturday June 18, paying $3,000 to win, and feature a first time visit from the Tennessee-based Southern Regional Racing Series. The 13th Annual Kentuckiana Klash will help celebrate America’s birthday on Saturday July 2, paying $5,000 to win for the National All Star Racing Association racers. Another new series calls on Saturday August 6 as the STARS Midwest Dirt Racing League comes to visit for the 13th Annual Bluegrass 50, paying $5,000 to win. The final big Super Late Model event take places on August 27 as the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series make its annual visit for the 11th Annual Cornett Racing Engines Bluegrass Classic, with a top prize of $10,000 at stake.
The UMP Modified division will again be sanctioned by the UMP DirtCar organization, allowing drivers that join as a member of UMP to be eligible for state, regional, and national points and money toward the UMP national championship. A pair of extra money events will take place for the UMP Modified division at Bluegrass Speedway in 2011. On Saturday May 14, the 11th Annual Mod Squad Bash will take place and will be sanctioned by the American Modified Series, paying $1,500 to win. The American Modified Series will make a return visit on Saturday July 23 for the 11th Annual Bluegrass Rumble, also paying $1,500 to win. The UMP Modifieds will also race for $800 to win at the 9th Annual My Old Kentucky Home Shootout.
The UMP Sportsman division will also be sanctioned again by the UMP DirtCar group and will allow racers that are UMP members to earn points toward the state and national UMP Sportsman championship. Two extra money events are on the Bluegrass Speedway schedule, with the 2nd Annual Bob Jones Memorial taking place on Saturday June 4, paying $500 to win, along with another $400 to win special event on Saturday September 24 at the 2011 Season Finale event. The UMP Street Stock division will also be UMP sanctioned again and will see its member drivers of UMP have the same opportunities as their counterparts in the Modified and Sportsman divisions. Two extra money events for the UMP Street Stock racers go on Saturday May 21 and Saturday September 17, with both events paying $300 to win.
A front wheel drive division, known as Compacts, will also be on the racing docket on a pair of occasions at this point for the 2011 season, with scheduled appearances for the front wheel drives racers on Saturday May 21 and on Saturday June 25.
