HAMPTON, Ga. (March 9, 2011) – Atlanta Motor Speedway officials have announced that Lynyrd Skynyrd, the most-celebrated Southern rock band in history, will headline the Fast Cars & Guitars pre-race concert prior to the track’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series night race on Sunday, Sept. 4.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees will perform a full-length concert on Atlanta Motor Speedway’s famed frontstretch as part of the track’s pre-race festivities, Fast Cars & Guitars featuring Lynyrd Skynyrd.

“We all look forward to playing the Atlanta Motor Speedway,” said Johnny Van Zant, lead vocalist for Lynyrd Skynyrd. “Lynyrd Skynyrd has been involved with NASCAR over the years. We were on an album called Hotter Than Asphalt doing the track ‘White Knuckle Ride’ and the best part of doing that was hanging out with the NASCAR drivers.”

A limited number of stagefront passes for Fast Cars & Guitars featuring Lynyrd Skynyrd and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver introductions are now available for $59 while they last. Stagefront passes will give fans the opportunity to enjoy the pre-race concert and Sprint Cup Series driver introductions while standing on the very track NASCAR’s stars will race on that night. As an added bonus for Lynyrd Skynyrd fans, those purchasing stagefront passes prior to March 16 at 5:00 p.m. will be entered to win a meet-and-greet with Lynyrd Skynyrd prior to the Sunday, Sept. 4 NASCAR race and a signed guitar from the band.

“Our goal is to make Labor Day 2011 the best NASCAR race weekend in the history of Atlanta Motor Speedway,” said Ed Clark, Atlanta Motor Speedway president and general manager. “Adding Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Fast Cars & Guitars pre-race concert is certainly a step in that direction. Fans can expect more announcements in the coming months as we work to make this the greatest Labor Day party in the USA.”

The Lynyrd Skynyrd announcement coincides with the track’s general on-sale date for tickets to the Sept. 2-4 Labor Day NASCAR night racing weekend. Adult tickets start at just $39 for NASCAR’s biggest night racing weekend and student tickets cost just $19. Fans can reserve their seats for just $20 down by contacting the Atlanta Motor Speedway Ticket Office.

Despite their Florida upbringing, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s music history ties them to Atlanta. The band was first discovered by Al Kooper of Blood, Sweat and Tears in an Atlanta club in 1972 before signing the renamed Lynyrd Skynyrd to MCA Records. In 1976, Lynyrd Skynyrd recorded their first live album, One More from the Road, at the Fabulous Fox Theatre in Atlanta. The live album went on to achieve RIAA triple platinum recognition.
