It took just 18 Modifieds to put on a whale of a race at Ark-La-Tex Speedway Sunday afternoon for a $700-to-win top prize. The next time Mods appear at Ark-La-Tex will be Sunday, March 27th and the stakes go up! $2000 to win!

Aaron Jorden held off Tyler Townsend and Chris Henigan to win the first heat while in the second heat, rookie Modified racer Ronald Pilkington continued to be impressive by passing Billy Robinson on the last lap to claim that heat one. Pilkington has already won a Modified feature at Boothill Speedway this year and would try for his first Ark-La-Tex Modified win from the outside pole.

Jorden would lead all the way in this one but just barely for more than a few laps. He had three different drivers get along side him in all and sometimes, they were on both sides of him but his #10 was just too strong to be passed on this day. It was Jorden's second win in as many days as he won at Sabine Motor Speedway on Saturday night. Pilkington, Townsend and Henigan all took their shots at him and had some great battles with each other along the way too, running three-wide for 2nd at one point in the daylight!!! Henigan was the strongest of that group at the end though and came up second. Pilkington finished 3rd and Townsend wound up settling for 4th -- his 4th top five of the weekend and that included wins at Boothill and Rose Bowl.

Behind those four the racing was even better. After one restart, there was a couple rows of 3-wide racing that lasted for 3 laps! Brad Pannell was having a strong top five run but spun out of 5th for a caution with 3 laps to go. Jamie Burford came on to claim that final top five spot at the end after he claimed victory at Champion Park Speedway on Saturday night. 14th starting Billy Jack Brutchin finished 6th with Robinson, Jonathan Stuart and Jeff Huckaby, 7th through 9th. Thanks to all the other drivers -- David Winslet, Brett Washburn, Michael Knighten, Caleb Shown, Richard Haynes, Robert Young, Edward Oakes and Jason Miles for making this a show!!!

The Limited Modified feature was full of the same kind of action and other kinds of action as well and even though the winner only won by a bumper, that was the SECOND CLOSEST finish of THE DAY! The beginner feature ended in a dead heat!!! First, it looked like this was going to be another Limited feature decided between hot shoes Billy Melton, Jr. and Derrick Grigsby with Mark Smith not far behind. The early laps saw a great battle between Melton and Grigsby with Melton finally pulling out a car-length lead but on the next lap, Grigsby got into four too hard and clipped the back of Melton's #10 and sent it spinning around. Melton was sent to the back and Grigsby was sent to the pits. Now Smith took over but with just a couple laps left, he pulled off with mechanical trouble and suddenly, this race was wide open to anyone. Adam Penn in brother Casey's #5* had the lead but to his outside was Aaron Roy. Roy was getting further and further along side of Penn until they came off turn four dead even for the checkered flag and Roy took the win by inches. Melton rallied all the way up to third with the winner's brother Adam Roy and Josh Beckham rounding out the top five.

Don't miss the Qwik Race Cars Spring Nationals on March 26th and 27th. Starts at 7 on Saturday and just like this past Sunday's race, Ark-La-Tex will start at 3PM on the Sunday the 27th. Modifieds don't race on Saturday. Sunday only for $2000 to win!!!
