Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway and Miley Motorsports honored their 2010 Track Champions at the annual awards banquet held Saturday, March 12th at the Lafayette Room in Imperial, PA.

Hometown competitor Mike Johnson of Imperial, PA captured two feature wins in 2010 en-route to his first ever PPMS Super Late Model Title. Johnson admitted that he had anticipated travelling a but in more in 2010 but once he reached the midway point of the season and was sitting atop the point standings the team decided to commit to the winning the title. Johnson also claimed the 1991 and 1992 Limited Late Model Title at the Imperial, PA oval.

Mark Moats, Jr. of nearby Hookstown, PA claimed his first ever track championship and was honored as the FASTRAK/Pro-Late Champion. Moats claimed the title by a mere 11 points over runner-up Laura Lukon. Neither Moats nor Lukon won a feature event as they battled for the title although Moats did claim the FASTRAK/Pro-Late main event at the Tri-Star Pittsburgher season finale.

Like Johnson and Moats, Young Guns Champion Danny White celebrated his first ever title in 2010. The likeable Carnegie, PA teen tallied six regular season victories and the Tri-Star Pittsburgher main event in 2010. White also indicated that he will return to defend his crown in 2011.

Second generation competitor Daryl Charlier captured his second consecutive DIRTcar UMP E-Mod title at the Imperial oval in 2010. The new father was unable to attend the awards ceremony but indications are that he will return to attempt the “three-peat” in 2011.

Carnegie, PA resident Brian Huchko scored a very impressive 12 feature wins in 2010 and they enabled him to claim his first ever DIRTcar Hobby Stock title. The driver of the sharp looking Number 60 indicated that he will compete in either an E-Mod or Cadet in 2011.

Jake Simmons rounded out the championship team as he scored the 2010 DIRTcar Cadet Title. The likeable McKees Rocks, PA driver visited the PPMS Victory Lane six times in 2010 and will definitely be one of the favorites in the class for 2011.

The prestigious Sportsman of the Year Award was presented to Phil Lukon. The award is presented to an individual who exemplifies the meaning of true “sportsmanship” and Lukon is certainly worthy of the award. The former driver has been a fixture at ‘Dirt’s Monster Half Mile” since it opened in 1979. Lukon currently fields the FASTRAK/Pro-Late teams driven by his children, Kyle and Laura.

The following drivers were named “Rookies of the Year in their respective divisions:
Super Late Models: Jason Rider; FASTRAK/Pro-Lates: Nico Dabecco; UMP E-Mods: George Nicola; Cadets: Josh Langer; Hobby Stocks: Ricky Steigerwald; Young Guns: Adam Carson.

The 2011 season at “Dirt’s Monster Half Mile” is just a few days away as a Test and Tune Session will be held on Saturday, March 26th. The session is open to all divisions and will be held from 3:00PM to 6:00PM. Pit and Grandstand Admission Gates will open at 2:00PM. Grandstand Admission is Free.

The official racing season will get underway just one week later on Saturday, April 2nd with the 2011 Blastoff Action Event featuring the Super Late Models, FASTRAK/Pro-Lates, UMP E-Mods, Cadets, Hobby Stocks and Young Guns. Adult Grandstand Admission is just $13.00, Seniors Aged 60 and over are $10.00, Juniors (13 to 16) are $8.00, Children (7 to 12) are $5.00 and Children Seven and Under are Free.
