Gold,

I doubt seriously that the crank has worn an even .030 all the way around the thrust surface. You need to measure it with a dial indicator and rotate the crank around. Even if you put the bigger bearing in it, she will probably wallow around and kill the thrust bearing again. My maximum front to back with a dial indicator on the snout is .003" -.004." Damage usually happens from the snout of a transmission being crammed into the pilot bearing too much and then running in that tight situation.

With the cost of new cast cranks with bearings in the $150 range why not just buy a new one. I just had one turned this week, on the mains and rods 10/10 and had the rear thrust re-machined to .010" to save a super nice steel crank and it cost me about $200 for the grinding work and bearings.

Cast cranks are dime a dozen and I get mine ground for $75 each. Can probably get one from Autozone, O'relliy, ect. for $130 with bearings.

If you have a .030 under crank and the thrust is damaged....time to get a different crank.

Eagle & Scat cast cranks are junk with be cracked in 500 laps also beware of reground cranks from a parts store it probably has a welded up journal.

i am not gonna use the crank ,i put a dial indicator on the end of the crank and it has .040 end play . shops around here get more to clean, mag and turn a cast crank than i can buy a new one for. we only turn 6200 .in michigan alot of machine shops are fighting for business and charging about anything.yet i could have one turned out of state for 47.00 plus shipping locally it would cost 145.00
