Sometimes my starter engages fine but it seems that if it get to much of a load then it wants to disengage, anyone else ever have this problem and if so how did you fix it? Thanks in advance

Possible the voltage is dropping low enough to disengage the solenoid on the starter?

Had the same problem on my late model. I always turned the engine over a few times before putting fire to it and some times it would start and others the starter would kick out and just spin. Figured it was either the bendix or the solenoid on the starter. Since the starter was used when I got it and didn't know any history.....I opted to put a new one on and never had another problem.

The bendix of a starter is a one way clutch which drives the pinion gear which drives the flywheel. When the bendix will not stay engaged to the flywheel and the starter just kicks out of engagement, the one way clutch of the bendix is bad. If the starter is not to old and worth putting any money into it. Replace the bendix.
