View Full Version : Noisy starter during disengagement
Put a bert bellhousing and reverse mount starter in. When the starter engages sounds normal no clicking banging grinding etc. When the engine fires during disengagement there is quite a racket. Difficult to describe the exact noise except maybe the starter gear is chattering. Once it is clear nice and quiet from then on. I had read on here to lube with WD-40 and not to grease the gear. any ideas??????

Make sure the gear on the bellhousing and the spring on it move really free!!! I had one do the same thing and the spring was getting hung up so I replaced it.

The transfer gear in the bellhousing has a grease fitting, it is between the trans and the starter and not really easy to get to but it must be greased about every few weeks. Just a pump or two and you should be OK.
F.Y.I WD-40 will varnish and glue things together if left alone and it dries, use a good spray.
