Limited is typically a self built or pro-built engine. Usually 350 with flat top pistons, solid cam and all steel block and heads, with a few exceptions. They usually make in the neighborhood of 575 to 625 HP depending on rules. Range in price from $5K to $25K depending on quality of parts you choose and who assembles it. It use to be, about 15 years ago that Limited had to run what is referred to as a factory clip frame, but now they are the same as an super DLM.

Crate consists of 604 and 602 engines from GM, that are factory sealed and can only be freshened by approved builders with no modifications outside factory specs. They range in HP from 330 to 430, depending on the quality of the assembly and which crate you buy. Range in price from $3195 to roughly $7K fully blue printed. Some claim to have paid more, but they are either illegally modified or they got ripped off. The 602 is all steel, block and heads. The 604 is steel block aluminum heads. 95% of those running crate are using the 604, but it varies depending on your area. Crate cars also use the same frame as supers.

There is another crate engine used in Supers called the CT525 built by GM that makes 540HP and is all aluminum and it runs about $10K fully dressed and ready to race thats based on the LS3 Corvette engine, minus fuel injection.

Here in the Southeast we haven't had to run clip frames in limited for about 15 years... The NLMS series was still using clip cars up until about 5 years ago, but they now too are allowed a full tube frame. Clip cars are only utilized in Hobby and Open wheel Mods, at least here in the Southeast thats how it is.

I would only add that at some tracks they run the Limited Late Models and the Crates together as one class and they just call it Limited Late Model or Sportsman. Limited Late Models are also sometimes called Sportsman (not as much now as in years past, Hobby cars are the new "Sportsman'' class around here), or Steel Head Late Models.

One local track now just calls them "Latemodels" Both the Steel and the Crates in hopes that everone will quit all the gryping about Crate Vrs. Steelhead, but we all know that that is NEVER gonna happen!!!!!!! lol...lol...lol...
