Hawkins Races from 13th for UFo “Topless 51” Win at Tyler County!

(Middlebourne, WV) – The UFo Race Championship landed for the 17th annual Topless 51. 40 of some of the area’s best Super Late Model drivers signed in for the annual event. Jared Hawkins of Fairmont, WV captured his 2nd all-time UFo Race Championship win in a race where the top 10 finishing drivers advanced
74 positions!

After Paul Wilmoth Jr., Tim Dohm, Butch McGill, Jared Miley and Andy Bond notched the heat wins. Devin Friese, Jacob Hawkins and Keith Barbara grabbed the consolation victories.

The green flag flew with Tim Dohm jumping to the front followed by Bond, Harold Redman Jr., Zack Dohm and Miley the top five. The first yellow came on lap four when Matt Lux looped his mount in turn four. Using double file restarts, Tim Dohm still was in command but now Redman, Jared Hawkins (from thirteenth), Paul Wilmoth Jr., and Zack Dohm were now the top five.

Clate Copeman brought out the next caution when he spun in turn two. The race stayed green until lap 12 when Mike Benedum came around in turn four. Tim Dohm, Redman, Jared Hawkins, Paul Wilmoth and Steve Wilmoth occupied the top five. On the restart Danny Mitchell slowed in turn two slowing the race again. Tim Dohm was still the leader, when on lap 24 Hawkins got by Redman for second and began to apply pressure to Dohm.

On lap 26 the front two were door to door for the point. The yellow again was unfurled on lap 27 when Lux slowed in turn four. Dohm, Jared Hawkins, Redman, Wilmoth and Robbie Scott (from twelfth) now filled the top five. The caution came out again on lap 32 for Miley who slowed on the front chute. Jared Hawkins was turning up the heat as he pulled even with Dohm on lap 40.

The race again was stopped when Bond slowed in turn four on lap 42. Dohm fended off Jared Hawkins lap after lap until lap 48 when exiting turn two Dohm slowed letting Hawkins shoot by. Jared Hawkins now was the new leader ahead of Wilmoth, Scott, Jacob Hawkins (from seventeenth) and Benedum (from twenty first).

Jacob Hawkins then motored his way to his brothers tail as the final yellow came out on lap 49. The two Fairmont drivers started the three lap dash side by side. The elder Hawkins was able to held off younger brother for the win. Scott crossed the line in third, Paul Wilmoth was fourth and Benedum was fifth. Hawkins put the Bobby Lake Motorsports / J C Distributors after coming close numerous times in a big event at the Bullring. It was a clean sweep as Bobby Lake Motorsports finished one, two, three. Redman, Steve Wilmoth, Butch McGill, Doug Eck and Keith Barbara rounded out the top 10.

How was the dust???

Believe it or not there really wasn't any. Chunks of mud were flying into the stands though during hotlaps which was good to see. :D

You must have been sitting in the right place then. It was pretty dusty on the back stretch as we were covered but not complaining.

But by Tyler County dust standards it couldn't have been bad. It was the first time I never had to use my dust-deflector safety glasses at Tyler.
