You have the "normal" nut and another nut that stops the divider/slider between the two springs. That nut may actually be two nuts that you tighten against each other to keep it from vibrating and turning.

The "gap" question cannot be answered. It depends entirely where you are installing it on the car and what you are attempting to accomplish. It could be no gap or 3 or 4".

I know afco and integra both have starting points for this setup that should at least get you in the ballpark.

The two nuts jam together. Starting point that Afco recommends is a 1.5" gap between the slider and the jam nut (1.5" of travel). This is measured at ride height and assumes you are using the 700 400 spring combo.

On the rf for a "on the rf" car attitude.

keep in mind when playing around with it...on a 700/400 combo a 1/4" change in the stop nut will promote/demote almost 3 times that amount of shock travel. that can be a rather large change in car attitude. In other words if you move your stop nut up 1/4", your shock/spring will likely compress almost 3/4" more than before given the same conditions.

JMO - this setup on the rf is not a fix for any handling condition. it makes a good handling car on a true linear rf spring much more versatile on a changing track, and/or on various types of tracks. it will get you into trouble in a hurry if not set up properly.

It will tighten corner entry because you'll be on a softer spring under decell.
Once the car is laid over and on the stiff spring (on exit) the car will have dynamic wedge and be tighter on exit.
But of course you have to have it setup right.
