UFo Returns to Attack the new Elkins Raceway in June 2011!
(Mars, PA) – As the new management team of the Elkins Raceway formulates the 2011 schedule for the track, one special event date has already been released. The annual “Chuck Gear Championship” will take place on Friday night, June 17 and will be presented under the UFo Race Championship banner.

Elkins Raceway will be under the management of Jim Skidmore. Skidmore’s father was one of the original members that built the speedway in 1952 and the Skidmore family has been involved with the Speedway for decades. After the closing of the Weston, Morgantown and most recently I-79 Speedways in the north central region of WV, Elkins has been the anchor venue for racing in that area.

The UFo “Chuck Gear Championship” will include a 41-lap Super Late Model Championship paying $3,000 to win. This will make a $31,000 weekend for the UFo pilots, with Thunder Valley Raceway at Central City, PA also paying $3,000 to win on Saturday, June 18 for their UFo “Willie Will Tribute.”

Elkins Raceway was the site of 1 UFo landing in 2009, which generated one of the best races in the history of the tour. After 9 amazing lead changes, Gary Dalton of Morgantown WV was the winner of the UFo “Armstrong Classic” at Elkins over Matt Lux of Franklin, PA and Billy Holbert of Fairmont, WV.

The prep work is underway at the Elkins Raceway and the track will host an open practice on Friday night, April 29. The 2011 Elkins Kick-Off will be the following Friday, May 6. The Super Late Models, Semi-Lates, E-mods, Street Stocks, Hornets and children’s Mini-Wedges will be in competition on Friday nights.

Elkins Raceway will become the 10th supertrack on the UFo tour for 2011. Elkins will utilize the standard UFo Super Late Model rules weekly, also becoming the 10th track in the region to agree to this universal set of rules. The Semi-Lates will run using FASTRAK rules with the E-mods using TSMA rules. Neither division will be sanctioned for weekly racing, but the Super Late Model, Semi-Late and E-mod rules will be in line with those of Tyler County Speedway and Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex. The Street Stocks will utilize the same rules as 2010, with the Hornets utilizing Tyler County rules. Mini-Wedges will run under MWRA rules.

The new website for the Elkins Raceway is in place at http://elkinsraceway.net. The website includes rules, track and contact information as well as a few preliminary schedule dates.

UFo will take a break before roaring back into action for 4 consecutive weekends. On Saturday May 14, The “PENNational” at Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway will see UFo and ULMS go face to face in twin 28-lap Super Late Model features paying $4,000 to win. The UEMS E-mods will also be part of that event along with the tracks regular divsions. On May 21, UFo will invade the Thunder Valley Raceway for the “Shawn McGarvey Showdown.” This 38P-lap feature will pay $3008P to the winner. All TVR divisions will race that night.

UFo will make its debut at the Hesston Speedway on Sunday, May 29. “Triple TnT” will include 3-25 lap late model championships. The UFo Super Late Models will compete in twin 25 lap features with at total of $4,000 to win, while the track’s Late Model Sportsman (Limited/Steel Block/Pro-Crate) will race 25 laps for $1,000. All Hesston divisions will be on the program. UFo will return to the Tyler County Speedway on Saturday, June 4 for the “King of the Bullring.” The Area 51-lap feature will pay $4,000 to the winner. All Tyler County classes will be part of that event.

The UFo Race Championship is an event marketing alliance among independent supertracks in the PA-WV-MD region. Participating speedways presents their own championship Super Late Model events under the UFo banner throughout the season using common tech and procedure rules with a year-end, group funded, point bonus for the top finishing drivers on the tour. Eligible tracks are within the 3 hour travel distance of the central point of Washington, PA.
