CARTERSVILLE, GA – The conclusion of NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 5 competition saw new point leaders in both the West and Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Regions, and several special wins. Justin McRee of Tuscaloosa, AL leads the West Region points and Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL leads the OMG East Region standings.

McRee survived the deadly tornado that destroyed much of his hometown on Wednesday, and was able to race on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park where he finished second and earned 25 bonus points for four weeks of perfect attendance at WMP to grab the West Region point lead with 222 points.

“J-Mac” has two wins and four top five finishes in four starts driving the Century Dedicated, Inc. Trak-Star, and has a six-point lead over the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS, who picked up his first win of the season and 25 bonus points on Saturday night at WMP in the H.E. Mosley Trak-Star.

Randy Boyd of Marion, MS finished fourth on Saturday night at WMP and earned 25 four week perfect attendance bonus points in the Meridian Coca-Cola Trak-Star to move up to the third spot in the West Region standings with 205 points.

Cliff Williams of Star, MS remains undefeated in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Late Model competition at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS, as he took his third straight win driving the Ware Construction Trak-Star. Williams has 200 points and is fourth in the West Region standings.

Wiley Williams of Stonewall, MS, Larry Murphy of Meridian, MS, and Daniel Bridgeman of Meridian, MS are three more drivers that each earned 25 bonus points for four weeks of perfect attendance at WMP that moved them up to the fifth, sixth, and seventh spots respectively in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings.

Landon Frith of Terry, MS, Casey Haney of Meridian, MS, and Tim Dees of Meridian, MS are tied for the eighth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings with 189 points apiece. Haney and Dees each earned 25 four week perfect attendance bonus points on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park.

Both Cliff Williams and Frith have a unique opportunity to earn 50 bonus points in Week 6 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series action if they compete this Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS and this Saturday night at Jackson Motor Speedway. Both drivers will collect their 25 bonus points for their fourth week of perfect attendance at each track.

There were two more first time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region winners in Week 5 competition, as David Carpenter of Greenwood, MS took his first career dirt late model win on Saturday night at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS driving the C&C Auto Body and Paint Rocket.

Carpenter led wire-to-wire and overcame a sour carburetor to post the win. As long as Carpenter was at speed, his car ran fine, but Carpenter struggled to keep the car running under the four caution flag periods. After taking the checkered flag, Carpenter’s car stalled on the scales and he had to pushed to victory lane to celebrate his first-ever win.

Jeffrey Lawson of Ellisville, MS took his win of season on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park driving the Lawson Waste Services Rocket. Lawson ended Cliff Williams’ winning streak at HMP, as Williams was looking for his third straight win, but had to settle for second spot behind Lawson.

Three NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region events on the west side of the Mississippi River were rained out in Week 5. Malden Speedway in Malden, MO was rained out on Friday night, while Centerville Speedway in Centerville, AR and Drew County Speedway in Monticello, AR were rained out on Saturday night.

Elkins finished second on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL in the ADP Special to take over the lead in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings with 261 points. Elkins has one win and four top five finishes in six starts.

Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL had a top ten finish on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track to hold down the second spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS OMG East Region standings with 255 points. Brian Ponder of Talladega, AL is third with 253 points, and Mike Combs of Odenville, AL is fourth with 250 points.

David Crabtree of Maryville, TN is fifth in the OMG East Region standings with 243 points, and Patrick Duggan of Lenoir City, TN is sixth with 235 points. Bobby Giffin of Maryville, TN and Ken Pate of Pell City, AL are tied for the seventh spot with 231 points apiece. Brian Ownby of Maryville, TN is ninth with 218 points.

Robby Moses of Friendsville, TN and Brad Coffey of Maryville, TN are tied for the tenth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings with 217 points apiece.

Tim Staples of Pell City, AL took the OMG East Region win in the Family Nissan Rocket on Saturday night during a special evening at Talladega Short Track. TST fans and competitors collected three truck loads of needed supplies for Alabama tornado victims, and Staples donated his winnings to help those that were devastated by the Wednesday killer storms.

Craig Scott of Newnan, GA grabbed a pair of wins in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region Week 5 competition driving the Tire Zone GRT. Scott took the win on Friday night at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL, and followed that up with a win on Saturday night at New Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA.

Kevin Maher of McDavid, FL captured his third win of the season on Saturday night driving the Maher Motorsports GRT to victory in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region event at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL.

Greg Martin of Oliver Springs, TN drove the Boyd Electric Special to his second NeSmith Chevrolet WRS OMG East Region win of the season on Saturday night at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN.

Three-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Champion GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR took over the point lead after Week 5 competition with two wins from Scott and a win from Maher to bring their season win total to 11.

The two-time and defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Champion Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL had two wins from Williams and McDuffie to bring their season win total to 10 and the second spot in the standings.

Rocket Chassis of Shinnston, WV had three wins in Week 5 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition from Lawson, Carpenter and Staples to stay in the hunt for the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Championship. Rocket Chassis is third in the standings with a win total of six.

Also competing in the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge and still looking for their first wins of the season are TNT Race Cars of Piney Flats, TN, Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN, and Stinger Race Cars built by J.T. Kerr Racing Equipment of Rockford, TN.
