$5,000-to-win Super Late Model 'Border Wars - Mountain Mayhem Shootout' scheduled FRIDAY, MAY 6 at Volunteer Speedway

BULLS GAP, Tenn. — The next racing action at Volunteer Speedway will be on FRIDAY, MAY 6 as “The Gap” hosts Night 1 of “Border Wars - Mountain Mayhem Shootout” for Super Late Models paying $5,000-to-win.

Night 2 (Saturday, May 7) of Border Wars - Mountain Mayhem Shootout will be just up Interstate 81 at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Va. With the back-to-back nights of racing at Volunteer and Wythe, each Super Late Model event pays $5,000-to-win. If the same driver can win both races they will earn a $1,500 bonus, making it a possible $11,500 in winnings.

A tentative list of racers set to possibly tackle the high banks at Volunteer Speeday on FRIDAY, MAY 6 include grandsons of NASCAR multi-team owner Richard Childress – Austin Dillon (currently sixth in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series points) and Ty Dillon (current Automobile Racing Club of America points leader and winner three weeks ago at Talladega Superspeedway) of Lewisville, N.C.; Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tenn.; Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C.; Ray Cook of Brasstown, N.C.; Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga.; Chip Brindle of Chatsworth, Ga.; Chris Ferguson of Mount Holly, N.C.; Johnny Pursley of Clover, S.C.; Zack Mitchell of Enoree, S.C.; Ross Bailes of Clover, S.C., plus many more.

Heading the list of East Tennessee drivers expected is five-time Volunteer Speedway track champion Vic Hill of Morristown, Knoxville’s Mark Douglas, Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, Jeff Maupin of Greeneville, Bristol’s Kerry Jones, Tommy Kerr of Maryville, Powell’s Mark Vineyard, Chad Ogle of Sevierville, Steve Smith of Powell, Mike Weeks of Friendsville, along with others.

Besides the Super Late Models, also racing FRIDAY, MAY 6 at Volunteer Speedway will be the Fastrak Racing Series-sanctioned Pro (Crate) Late Model, "Gunslingers of Kingsport" Hobby Stock, and Road Warrior classes.

*** NOTE: The Super Late Model $5,000-to-win show on FRIDAY, MAY 6 is a Volunteer Speedway event, not an Ultimate Super Late Model Series date as was announced on April 23 at the Late Model Showdown @ The Gap. Volunteer Speedway Super Late Model rules apply, meaning - Hoosier or American Racer tires are permitted.

Pit gate will open FRIDAY, MAY 6 at 3 p.m. and grandstands at 4:30 p.m. Drivers' meeting at 6:30 p.m. Hotlaps are tentatively scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., to be followed by qualifying and then racing action getting green flag around 8 p.m.

Adult grandstand admission on FRIDAY, MAY 6 is $15, youth (ages 9-15) $8, with 8-and-under admitted free in the grandstands. Pit passes and backside tier-parking $30, regardless of age.

*** NOTE: Fans may purchase a two-night adult grandstand ticket on Friday at Volunteer Speedway for $30, which will admit you both nights - Friday at "The Gap" and Saturday at Wythe Raceway.

Tell your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers all about racing at Volunteer Speedway. You can't beat the excitement of an action-packed night of racing at "The Gap!"

No lawn chairs will be permitted in the front straightaway grandstand. Only stadium seat-type cushions will be allowed. There are many grandstand seats at the track with backs on them. Also, no coolers or outside food allowed to be brought into the front straightaway (main) grandstand! Coolers are permitted in the pit area and the reserved backstretch tier-parking - however, no glass containers allowed.
