Brian Birkhofer Beats Talented Field at Burlington for First Win of 2011 Season!

(MUSCATINE, IOWA) Brian Birkhofer, of Muscatine, Iowa, captured his first victory of the young 2011 racing season on Friday night, May 13 at the 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa! The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series rolled into 34 Raceway on Friday to sanction a $10,000 to win showdown. Brian laid down a fast lap during the qualifying session and later won his stacked heat race.

After starting the 50-lap main event from the outside of the second row, Brian raced Steve Francis for the lead early in the race and eventually grabbed the top spot for good on the twenty-second circuit. The popular driver known as the "Muscatine Madman" held the talented field behind him for the remainder of the race to grab the $10,000 top prize over Scott Bloomquist, Steve Francis, Jimmy Owens, and John Blankenship!

On Saturday evening, May 14, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series was supposed to take the #15b team to the LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, Illinois for another $10,000 to win program. Unfortunately, Mother Nature ruled the day and wet weather postponed the one-day event to Tuesday, September 27. Full results from the 34 Raceway on Friday can be located online at www.lucasdirt.com.

“Anytime you can win in your home state in front of your fans and family, it makes the victory extra sweet,” commented Birkhofer this week. “But to win at 34 Raceway, where Johnny Johnson put so much time, effort, and resources into, that means a whole lot to me. I can’t say enough for what Johnny did for me and the sport of Dirt Late Model racing. Hopefully, we can keep things rolling this upcoming weekend and win that car down at Batesville. I don’t gamble or really go to casinos, so this may be my only shot to win a car!”

Up next for the #15b team will be a trip south to the Batesville Motor Speedway in Locust Grove, Arkansas over the May 20-21 weekend for the inaugural running of the ‘Bad Boy Mowers 98.’ The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will sanction the unique event, which starts with qualifying and heat races on Friday night. Consolation races and the 98-lap main event will headline the action on Saturday evening at the Batesville area speedplant. The winner of the ‘Bad Boy Mowers 98,’ which will be taped by the cameras of SPEED, will receive $10,000 plus a 2011 Chevy Camaro as the trophy.
