After rain out, STARS MDRL will now race at Lake Cumberland Friday May 27th $3,000
SOMERSET, KY (May 22, 2011)—After heavy rains moved into the area with three laps remaining in the final heat race on Saturday May 21st, the STARS Midwest Dirt Racing League presented by Arizona Sport Shirts will now be back in action on Friday Night May 27th at Hardgrove’s Lake Cumberland Speedway in Burnside, KY.
Since the series had not finished up the third heat race and made it to at least the halfway point in the main event, the Series and Speedway officials felt it necessary to re-start the entire program from the beginning.
This will be a $3,000 to win / $300 to start event and will be the second of five series visits throughout the 2011 season at the Brandon Hardgrove promoted facility located just minutes south of Somerset, Kentucky. The track is a 3/8th’s mile clay oval which is in their 31st season of competition. Justin Rattliff of Campbellsville, KY won the STARS MDRL opening event back on Saturday April 23rd.
The local Open Wheel Modifieds ($800 to win), Super Dirt Stocks and FWD’s will also be on the racing card that night. Pit Gates will open at 4:00 p.m. with the STARS MDRL trailer open for registration at 5:00 p.m. with the driver’s meeting slated for 7:00 p.m. and Hot Laps rolling out at 7:30 p.m. All times are Eastern.
All arm bands from the May 21st rainout will only be honored by the Speedway on this rain date of Friday May 27th only. Also, the Series will honor all entry fees paid by the drivers on this night and if drivers cannot make it for this make-up event, they may use their entry fee at any remaining STARS Midwest Dirt Racing League event throughout the season.
The track will not race on Saturday Night May 28th and come back with a Memorial Weekend special event on Sunday Night May 29th with a $2,000 to win Super Late Model event and racing for all supporting divisions.
Drivers in attendance for the Lake Cumberland Speedway event were: Greg Johnson, Eddie Carrier Jr., Michael Chilton, Jeff Rawlings, JJ Patterson, Shelby Johnson, Chris Combs, Jarrod Breeding, Ross White, Terry Tomlison, Greg Hansford, Skylar Marlar, Todd Coffman, David Webb, Dustin Linville, Stephen Breeding, Josh McGuire, Victor Lee, Justin Rattliff, Mick Sansom, and Steve Stollings were the 21 drivers in attendance representing KY, IN, WV and TN.
The STARS MDRL Late Models will see a full show of Practice, Time Trials, Heat Races, Consolation Races and the 40-lap Main event. The tire rule for the STARS MDRL Late Models will be Open Front with Hoosier LM40/1600 and American Racer MD56 on the rear. These tire compounds only must punch 60 cold.

The STARS Midwest Dirt Racing League Late Model drivers are vying for the guaranteed starting spot in this year’s 31st Annual edition of Carl Short’s Dirt Track World Championship paying $50,000 to win which will be held on October 14-15 at Schrader’s KC Raceway in Chillicothe, OH and will be sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
