Rohn Moon becomes second different STARS MDRL winner with win at Lake Cumberland
BURNSIDE, KY (May 27, 2011)—The STARS Midwest Dirt Racing League rolled into the Lake Cumberland Speedway in Burnside, KY on Friday Night May 27th for a make-up event from May 21st and Rohn Moon of Greenwood, IN would take home the $3,000 victory, his first-ever STARS MDRL event win and became the second different winner of two events on the season.
Moon drove the Moon Power Racing Engines powered CJ Rayburn chassis entry to victory lane winning over Chris Combs of Isom, KY, Dustin Linville of Bryantsville, KY, Michael Chilton of Salvisa, KY and Wesley Brummett of Harrodsburg, KY. Moon wouldn’t take the lead until the 21st lap when he rocketed around race leader Justin Rattliff after a good battle. Moon came from a fifth place starting spot to win the event.
The event was slowed for six yellow flags first for Todd Coffman with a left rear flat tire on lap four, then Victor Lee going in on the hook after a back stretch incident on lap eight. The next yellow would be for Skylar Marlar on lap ten as he slowed on the backstretch after slamming the turn one wall. On a lap ten restart, Steve Stollings would slow in turn four to bring out another yellow flag. The next yellow would be on lap 24 for Jeff Rawlings slowing at the top of turn one. On the 27th lap the yellow would fly as debris from Michael Chilton’s mount in turn four would land on the racing surface after hard contact with race leader Rohn Moon. The final yellow would wave on lap 33 as Mick Sansom spun coming off turn two. Moon would stay out front with a commanding lead to claim the event win.
The STARS Midwest Dirt Racing League by Arizona Sport Shirts will be off until June 25th when they return to Lake Cumberland Speedway in Burnside, KY and will do battle with the STARS Volunteer Racing Series Late Models for $3,000 during the annual Border Wars event.
