CARTERSVILLE, GA – The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour will embark on a Southern Georgia Double-Header this Friday night and Saturday night. Oglethorpe Speedway Park in Savannah, GA will host the series this Friday night, and then America’s Most Affordable dirt late model series heads for Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, GA on Saturday night.

Oglethorpe Speedway Park will present Round 8 of the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour with a $2,000-to-win 40-lap main event this Friday night. This will be the first visit for the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Tour to the ½-mile dirt oval.

Screven Motor Speedway will host the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series for the second time in the last three years on Saturday night with Round 9 of the 2011 season highlighted by a $2,500-to-win 50-lap main event on the 3/8-mile clay oval.

Both events this weekend are in the neighborhood of the series title sponsor NeSmith Chevrolet in Claxton, GA and two other dealerships in Hinesville, GA and Jesup, GA. Dan Breuer of Troutman, NC has been a man on mission with two wins and a sixth-place finish in his last three starts to lead the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour point standings. Breuer won on April 9 in Greenville, MS, followed that up with a sixth-place finish on May 20 in Penton, AL, and then took his second win of the season in Senoia, GA on May 21.

Breuer has 642 points and holds a 26-point lead over two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Champion David Earl Gentry of Murfreesboro, TN. Breuer has two wins, four top five finishes and seven top ten finishes in seven starts. Gentry has 616 points with four top fives and six top tens in seven starts.

Breuer and Gentry are the only two drivers to complete all 345 laps of competition in the first seven NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring events held so far this season. Breuer has also led 52 laps of competition this season.

Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour standings with 578 points. Turner has two top fives and four top tens in seven starts. Turner is known as the Ironman of the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Tour as the only driver to compete in every series event held since its inception in 2005.

Turner will be looking for his 114th and 115th consecutive events when the series visits his home state tracks Oglethorpe Speedway Park this Friday night and Screven Motor Speedway this Saturday night respectively.

Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS will be looking to compete in his eighth and ninth events of the season this weekend, and is fourth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour standings with 480 points.

The top four drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour are also the top four drivers in the Hedman Husler point standings. At each NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS event, drivers earn one Hedman Husler point for each position they improve from the start of the race to the end of the race.

Hedman Husler Hedders, the Official Hedder of the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series, will award a $1,000 bonus at the end of the season to the driver that earns the most points and named the Hedman Husler of the Year. Hedman Husler Hedders also awards the driver that improves their position the most from the start of the race to the end of the race with a $100 bonus and the Hedman Husler of the Race Award.

The top four in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS point standings have been busy passing cars this season, and just eight points separate them in the Hedman Husler point standings. Turner leads the Hedman Husler standings with 32 points followed by Gentry with 31 points, Breuer with 28 points, and Lee with 24 points.

Breuer’s teammate Steve Cooke of Mt. Airy, NC is also having success on the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour and is sixth in standings with 456 points. Cooke made it a one-two finish for AES Racing by finishing second behind Breuer on May 21 at New Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA. Cooke was also the Fast Qualifier for the event.

There is also a tight point battle among four drivers in the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour for the VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year Award. At the end of the season, VP Racing Fuels, the Official Racing Fuel of the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS, will award a $5,000 bonus to the top rookie driver in the series point standings.

Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL leads the VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year standings with 470 points and is fifth overall in the series point standings. Edge, the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region Champion, has two top fives, four top tens and one fast time in seven starts.

Mark Tice of Avon, MS is second in the VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year standings and seventh in the Touring standings with 420 points. Frank Wilson of Harold, FL is third in the VP Racing Fuels RoY points and eighth overall with 386 points. Tootie Arnold of Bude, MS is fourth in the VP Racing Fuels RoY points and ninth in the series standings with 320 points.

There are a couple of South Georgia drivers expected to defend their home turf this Friday night at Oglethorpe Speedway Park and on Saturday night at Screven Motor Speedway. Albert Cosnahan of Stillmore, GA finished fifth on May 20 at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL and took the sixth spot on May 21 at New Senoia Raceway. Ben Faircloth of Swainsboro, GA picked up two wins last season on the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour.
