You basically just filled the pan with five quarts. You will need to add another 4-5 quarts if the converter truly was empty. Also, if you have a cooler, another 1/2-1 quart. Usually 9-10 total does it, but cooler size, line length, etc will cause variations.

Anthony was right should be 9 qt. to fill it. Where was the fluid leaking from? Are you using a mid-mount between engine/trans, possibly causing torq conv to not engage the pump? Just a thought.

no mid or motor plates. measure 1-1 1/8" from mounitng bolt to bellhousing. wheels spin in reverse slightly in all gears???

Still low on fluid would be my guess then, its missing the fluid that went on your garage floor!!! Ive seen TH350s be just a qt. low and not work, the automatics are sensitive to low fluid levels.

tried to keep filling but it was pouring out the tranny from filler tube and cooler lines(at the tranny) i think. it was hard to tell exactly as there was so much leaking out!! the more i poured in, the more that kept coming out!!! something obviously not working......??

Sounds like pumps not working, bad pump, bad filter or case itself sucking air maybe, or convertor not engaged properly. should hold more then 5qts when empty, as mentioned the convertor holds almost that much.

Sounds like the torque converter was miss stabbed and it broke the pump.

BSKA, do you have an o-ring on the dipstick tube where it goes into the tranny? Or a rubber boot? Should not leak if properly sealed. Either way your trans must still be low on fluid. What size trans cooler & lines?

Just trying to rule out the simple stuff first...
