Would a 800 horse,18 degree steel motor be competitive in a super latemodel?
It is wet sump with external pump.

In a word...yes...but even a Roush Yates DLM engine can barely squeeze 800 horsepower...Cornett engines are around 750-780 with 12 and 13 degree heads...so if you honestly have an 800 hp 18 degree head you will be quite competitive..if the track can hold it...and you can drive it...

I think you a little off on your HP. data,I heard in a interview with scott his 410CI roush motor is 850 plus, and alot of the 12 and 13 degree motors are 830 hp and up,there is some 900 hp motors out there, and at port royal gary has a 1016 HP motor and is getting it to the ground and winning with it.

(1) Dynos do not win races

(2) Dynos lie

Yes, you can definitely win a LM race with a steel block.

1. I agree
2. I agree
3. Just easier to get % with an aluminum block...No extra HP
4. There are engines out there that on a conservative dyno, with minimal correction factors, will easily make 800 hp+ and be very drivable..We have one that made 819 and it pulls from the bootom smoothly and does not explode...

sj,
You also have an SB2.2 engine. Those usually dyno in that range if built correctly with good quality parts. An 18 degree engine is somewhat limited, and it is much more difficult to yield that type of power..not impossible, just very difficult...

the point is that an 800 horse engine will be competitive, and most of the time, you won't use it all!

I agree that with 18* heads those numbers are harder to get to and make them real driveable, but with 13*, 15* and GB heads those numbers are out there...

I been trying not say this but isn't that like asking if an 800LB Gorrila is strong?

OK,sorry guys,774 hp on dyno, was concerned with the weight disadvantage and
being wet sump instead of dry sump.....

A lot of rule packages give you a weight break with an iron block. Wet sump is fine as long as you have a high quality pan and the top end drains back properly.

You can be pretty competitive with a whole lot less engine than you have if you pick your spots. You would be shocked what you can win with on smaller, average to slick tracks.
