Jason Covert Shines during Appalachian Mountain Speedweek

York Haven, PA (June 14, 2011) Barry Klinedinst Motorsports and multi-time regional series champion Jason Covert of York Haven, PA enjoyed his week on the road with the Appalachian Mountain Speedweek presented by CenturyLink series finishing in the top-ten in six of the seven total events that stretched from Saturday, June 4 through Friday, June 10.

Covert, a favorite everywhere he unloads, especially Hagerstown Speedway where the week long mini-series kicked off, worked his way up to a tenth place finish at the famed Hagerstown, MD oval after having to transfer to the feature event through a consolation race. The series then moved to Winchester Speedway in Winchester, VA on Saturday, June 5 where Covert again won his consolation event to transfer to the main event and again, fought his way to a tenth place finish.

On Monday, June 6, Jason followed the tour to Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex in Markleysburg, PA where he drew the pole position for the $5,000 to-win feature event. Covert took the early lead but was hounded by the back to back World of Outlaws Late Model Series champion Josh Richards lap after lap. Jason changed his line just in time to keep Richards at bay but lapped traffic held up Covert on lap 20 giving the lead to Richards who held on for the win leaving Jason with a second place finish. ‘He was better than us tonight,’ Covert said of Richards, ‘When we got behind that lapped car, neither one of us wanted to back off, he got by us there and drove away, he deserved to win it.’

Next up was Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, PA on Tuesday, June 7. Covert clawed his way into a fifth place finish after an early spin sent him to the tail of the field. After a 12th place finish at Lincoln Speedway on Thursday, June 8, Jason rebounded with a seventh place finish at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, PA on Thursday, June 9. The stage was set for the finale at Bedford Speedway in Bedford, PA on Friday, June 10. Covert would start the main event in the seventh slot and slowly make his way to the second spot. A late caution put Jason on the rear deck-lid of leader Dan Stone but Covert couldn’t make the pass and would finish second behind Stone. Jason finished the week long mini-series third in points behind champion Austin Hubbard and Vic Coffey.

‘I just want to thank CenturyLink and all the tracks that hosted events during this year’s speedweek,’ an appreciative Covert said, ‘to have a deal like this for us is fantastic and it seemed the fans really came out to support it as well. When you have guys like Jimmy Mars coming in from Wisconsin and Austin Hubbard, Rick Eckert; guys like that supporting it all week and skipping one of the biggest events of the year to do it, you know it’s something worthwhile. We had an absolute blast racing with everyone all week and want to thank everyone who came out to support us.’

The BK Motorsports Team will take this upcoming weekend off but will get back to the grind on Friday, June 24 at Hagerstown Speedway for the $3,000 to-win, 35-lap, Three State Flyers sanctioned ‘Red Nininger Memorial’. Covert will follow that event up with a trip to Winchester Speedway on Saturday, June 25 for the second leg of the ‘Red Nininger Memorial also sanctioned by the Three State Flyers Series and also paying $3,000 to the winner.
