Jake Jones Racing Finishes well with 5 top 10’s in last 5 races...

Rainouts and good finishes have been the normal for Jake Jones Racing of late. The 28 year old, Shermansdale, PA speedster has recorded two top 10 finishes in the last 2 races at Williams Grove Speedway. On May 21st, Jake fought a few handling problems but still managed to bring home a hard fought 7th place finish. The following Saturday the yellow & red, Lazer chassis was much better as Jake raced his way into the top 5 and stayed with the leaders the whole way before winding up 5th in the final rundown. In the last three Williams Grove races the team has put its early season bad luck behind them. With finishes of 3rd, 7th & 5th in consecutive races, Jake now finds himself sitting 7th in the latest addition of the Williams Grove Speedway point standings.

Sunday, May 29th the team loaded up the Miller’s Racing Parts entry and headed to Hesston Speedway up near Lake Raystown in Huntingdon County for the first time. Jake adapted to the track right off the bat and although the car was just a tick off all night, Jake brought the car home with a fine 7th place finish.

After a June 4th rainout and with a scheduled June 11th off week, Jake and the team made a last minute decision to travel to Bedford Speedway on Friday June 10th. The 25 lap, $1,000 to win feature was part of the Bed/Rock Shootout between Bedford and Cumberland Speedways. The team unloaded the Miller’s Racing Parts #43 not knowing what to expect. Jake who had never laid eyes on Bedford Speedway prior to rolling in the gate earlier that night seemed to adapt quickly and was one of the fastest cars in warm-ups. After being handicapped severely by the guy who pulled his heat race line-up pill, Jake found a groove he was comfortable with and raced from the back row to finish second in his star filled heat race. Scheduled to start 8th at the drop of the green Jake slowly picked is way through traffic and before he knew it, by lap 9 he had caught the leaders. What ensued from that point on was a great 3 way battle for the lead with all 3 drivers showing respect as they ran 2 and 3 wide for the better part of 3 laps. On lap 12 Jake finally was able to wrestle the lead away and quickly pulled to a 3 car length lead. A lengthy yellow flag on lap 15 sealed Jake’s fate as it also sealed over the right rear tire. When the race when back to green the number #43 just was not quite the same and the team had to watch as Robbie Black shot around the outside for the win. Jake and the team would wind up with a very hard fought 2nd place finish in their first visit to Bedford Speedway.

“The guys worked really hard, and we have this car working pretty good every time we unload now” said Jones from the team’s race shop. “I had a blast racing at Hesston and Bedford. At Bedford, I really felt comfortable and the car was almost perfect. It was just a little off there at the end after going back to green, but all and all it was a worthwhile trip up the turnpike. We will certainly look for an opportunity to go back when the schedule allows” added Jones. The team will now be back in action at Williams Grove Speedway looking for that first win of 2011.

Look for all new Jake Jones T-shirt to debut over the next couple of weeks. The shirts will be available in both white and red.
