Steve Casebolt Jr. wins at PRP!

PORTSMOUTH, OH-Despite threatening skies all day long, well nearly 90 cars and a good crowd was in attendance for the “Premier Precast Products Limited Late Model Extravaganza” at PRP.

Front row starters Eddie Carrier Jr. and Steve Casebolt Jr. had a ferocious battle for the lead at the start of the nights 25 lap Late Model feature. The two battled side by side for the lead until a caution flag flew on lap 3 for a stopped Kenneth Howell. When the race resumed, the two continued their side by side battle. At one point in the first half of the race, Casebolt and Carrier went four wide as they split two lapped cars battling side by side off of turn four! After that daring move, Casebolt began to stretch out a five car length lead until the caution flew on lap 19, setting up a six lap dash for the $2,000.

On the restart, Casebolt jumped to the lead as Carrier immediately cleared the lapped car of Butch Dowdy. Carrier tried to chase down Casebolt but just wouldn’t have enough as Richmond, Indiana’s Steve Casebolt Jr. came across the checkers to take the feature win! Carrier finished second with R. J. Conley third, Shannon Thornsberry fourth, and Josh Bocook fifth. Eddie Carrier Jr. won the dash race while Rod Conley and Delmas Conley won heat races. Chris Wilson won the B-Main.

Anthony Slusher pulled out to a big lead to start the nights 20 lap Modified A-Main. By lap number three, Todd Robinson had moved into the second position and started to reel in Slusher. Robinson had nearly made it to the back of Slusher when Slusher’s #2 car suddenly slowed off of turn 2. This left Robinson with no place to go as he hit the rear of Slusher’s car. In an accident that got even more crazier, third place runner Greg Anderson, fourth place runner Doug Adkins, and fifth place runner Tony Dehart were all caught up in the crash!

Unfortunately, during the caution flag for that wreck, a heavy thunderstorm moved into Portsmouth Raceway Park and resulted in the rest of the evenings racing being cancelled. The Modified A-Main will resume on Saturday, June 25th immediately following hot laps. After the Modified A-Main will be the Premier Precast Products Limited Late Model Extravaganza A-Main and then the Bomber A-Main. Following the completion of the make-up features the June 25th racing program will begin with Late Model time trials. Since the rains came after the completion of the heat races, the night is deemed a complete program so rain checks will not be honored.

In addition to the make-up features, it will be the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home Kids Night at PRP on June 25th. A full program of Late Models-$2,000 to win, Modifieds-$600 to win, Limited Late Models-$500 to win, and Bombers-$400 to win will be on the card. There will also be many different activities set up for the kids. Kids 12 and under as well as all boy scouts who wear their uniforms will be admitted into the races for free. General admission is $12 with pit passes $22. Gates open at 4:00 pm with hot laps at 6:45 pm. For more information please visit www.portsraceway.com.
