Southern Ohio Speedway set to re-open with STARS MDRL ‘Southern 50’ on July 4th
SOMERSET, KY (June 22, 2011)—The track has set dormant for over eight years now but on Monday Night July 4th the Southern Ohio Speedway will roar back to life with a huge event.
The track located just outside Wheelersburg, Ohio will re-open to host its first event on a busy schedule opening with the STARS Midwest Dirt Racing League presented by Arizona Sport Shirts as the STARS MDRL Late Models will take to the track racing for $5,000 to win / $375 to start during the ‘Southern 50’ event. This will be the first of three appearances by the STARS MDRL to Southern Ohio Speedway.
The event will feature a full slate of Practice, Group Time Trials, Heat Races, Consolation Races and the 50-lap main event. Also on the racing card will be the Open Wheel Modifieds racing for $1,000 to win and Sport Mods.
The pit gates will open at 4:00 p.m. with the Driver’s Meeting set for 6:45 p.m. and Hot Laps will commence shortly after which will be around 7:00 p.m. Adult Grandstand Admission is $20.00 per person while Pit Passes will be $30.00.
The Tire Rule for the Southern Ohio Speedway event is Open Front with the Rear tires being Hoosier LM40/1300/1600 or the American Racer 44/56 and those soft tires must punch 40 cold and the hard tires must punch 60 cold. Steel Block engines must weigh 2200 lbs. minimum and Open Engines must weigh 2300 lbs. minimum with a pound per lap burn-off in all races. The STARS MDRL Entry Fee is $40.00 for members and $50.00 for non-members.

The track is located at 1408 Tick Ridge Road; Wheelersburg, OH 45694. The track is located by taking US 52 towards Wheelersburg. And get off on the State Route 140/South Webster exit ramp. Proceed on SR 140 for 2.2 miles and then turn left at Gammps BP to get on County Road 15. Stay on County Road 15 for one mile and then turn right to get on Tick Ridge Road, then follow that road 1.5 miles and the track is located on the right.

The STARS Midwest Dirt Racing League Late Model drivers are vying for the guaranteed starting spot in this year’s 31st Annual edition of Carl Short’s Dirt Track World Championship paying $50,000 to win which will be held on October 14-15 at Schrader’s KC Raceway in Chillicothe, OH and will be sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
