Tungate and Lee Topless Terror Night Winners at Bluegrass Speedway

Bardstown, KY-June 25, 2011- It would be the 8th Annual Topless Terror Night at Bluegrass Speedway and Tim Tungate of Campbellsville, KY would take the win in the 44 Auto Mart Super Late Model portion of Topless Terror Night, while Benji Lee of Loretto, KY would win the Country 100.9 MIKE FM UMP Modified portion of Topless Terror Night. Other feature winners for the evening included Derek Bottoms of Taylorsville, KY in Clayton Homes of Stanford UMP Sportsman, Scott Beeler of Louisville, KY in UMP Street Stocks, and Austin Taylor of Harrodsburg, KY in the debut of the Compacts.

The 44 Auto Mart Super Late Model feature event would see Joey Daniel grab the lead at the start of the event, only to have a caution for a spin by Tommy Carlton slow the action on lap 2. The restart would only see one more lap completed before Jeff Watson slowed in turn two. This restart of the night would see things get interesting as Lee Devasier would slidejob past Daniel for the lead on lap 4, only to have Daniel dive back beneath him in turn three in an attempt to retake the lead. The pair would make contact in turn four, with Devasier’s mount slamming hard into the outside wall, ending his night. The final restart of the event would see now second place Tim Tungate challenge Daniel for the lead, taking the top spot on lap 5. The remainder of the race would go caution free, with Tungate scooting out to a comfortable lead and holding on to score his 31st career Super Late Model victory at Bluegrass Speedway aboard the J&L Motorsports owned Barnes Auto Sales/Campbellsville University/Wilson Plumbing sponsored #18 C.J. Rayburn Race Car, powered by an Estes Race Engine. Tim Rivers would get by Steve Barnett in the late stages of the race to take second, with Barnett, while Daniel would fade to fourth, while Jeff Watson completed the top five. Rivers would be the top qualifier among 11 entries at 14.716 seconds, while Watson won the dash, with Michael Chilton winning the heat.

The Country 100.9 MIKE FM UMP Modified feature event would see Benji Lee take the lead at the onset of the 20 lap main event and Lee would never look back in taking his 37th career Modified feature victory at Bluegrass Speedway. Lee would take his second win of the season in the seat of his Thompson Heat and Air/A.L. Ball Moving/On Time Courier/On Time Construction/St. Joe Garage/Smart Shoppers/Springfield NAPA/B&B Motorsports sponsored #03 Bandit Race Car powered by a Dale Meers Race Engine. Dion Benningfield would settle for runner-up honors, with Robbie Gullion taking third. Billy Meredith and Randy Turpin would complete the top five. Gullion would be top qualifier among 7 entries at 16.652 seconds, while Meredith won the heat.

The Clayton Homes of Stanford UMP Sportsman feature event would see Derek Bottoms and Robbie Settles battle for the race lead throughout the 15 lap feature event, with Bottoms keeping Settles at bay to pick up his first-ever career feature event victory aboard the Tracy Bottoms owned Sherrard Automotive/Gray Racing/All Pro Engine Service/Sweet Treats/Chesser Electric/Lincoln Arms sponsored #93 Olds Cutlass entry. Settles would take second, with veteran racer Danny Blackwell taking third place honors. Elton Martin and Tim Cummings would round out the top five. Eight entries would see the heat win also go to Bottoms.

Scott Beeler would take the lead away from J.R. Bryan in the early stages of the 12 lap UMP Street Stock feature event and would survive a one-lap shootout at the end of the race to win his second feature of the season behind the wheel of his Bootleg Bar-B-Q/ Pro Tint/Amsoil/Mac’s Race Engines/Terry’s Satellite City/Daryl Hadley Racing sponsored #12 entry. Bryan Derringer would score a career-best second place finish, with Mark Filiatreau coming home in third. The remainder of the top five would be Bryan and Joe Walker. Thirteen entries would see heat race wins scored by Garnett Eldridge and Bryan.

The Compacts division would make their debut with three entries and Austin Taylor would lead the way in taking the feature win in the Jamie Stumph owned Superior Drywall/Bennett’s Car Care/Hensley’s Gun Store/Keith Taylor Construction sponsored #5 Honda Accord. Sam Lyons would take second, with Brandon Lucas going third. Lucas would win the heat.
