Kentuckiana Klash Fast Facts and Tidbits
-This event was first added to the Bluegrass Speedway schedule in 1998 and was sanctioned by the first year running Northern All Stars Late Model Series. The event paid $2,000 to win and was scored by Florence Speedway regular Audie McWilliams of Walton, KY.

-In 1999, the season was shortened at Bluegrass Speedway and the event was not on racing schedule that season.

-The race returned to the schedule in 2000 under first year Bluegrass Speedway promoters David and Anita Ferrell and was again sanctioned by the Northern All Stars Late Model Series and saw National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame member Jim Curry of Norman, IN pick up the race win.

-The 2001 version of the Kentuckiana Klash was again sanctioned by the Northern All Stars Late Model Series and featured former Dream and Dirt Track World Championship winner Darrell Lanigan of Union, KY in victory lane.

-In 2002, the first year Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series sanctioned the Kentuckiana Klash and featured a duel between Mike Jewell of Scottsburg, IN and Scott James of Lawrenceburg, IN that saw the pair battle side by side for the biggest part of the 30 lap, $3,000 to win event, with Jewell nipping James at the checkered flag, with 2001 winner Darrell Lanigan, Ed Behn, and Kevin Claycomb completing the top five.

-The 2003 version of this race was “déjà vu all over again” and Mike Jewell and Scott James again battled it out side by side for the majority of the race, before Jewell secured the lead for good with 2 laps remaining to take the win over James, Steve Barnett, Aaron Hatton, and Rick Corbin. The NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series was the sanctioning body again for the event.

-In 2004, the event was delayed one day due to rain on Saturday and was contested on Sunday afternoon and saw Tim Tungate of Campbellsville, KY capture the biggest win of his career and score his first ever O’Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series presented by Arizona Sport Shirts win. Tungate’s win was marred by a scary incident after the checkered flag fell win he made heavy contact with a slowed Dustin Neat just past the flagstand that saw the eventual winner and his race team walk to victory lane for the customary winner circle photographs.

-The 2005 edition of the Kentuckiana Klash saw Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN literally dominate the field, leading all 30 laps and lapping up to the 10th place that evening in just 15 short miles. Marlar’s win came over Terry English, Brad Neat, Bryan Barber, and Jerry Rice.

-Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN would put his name in the record books as the winner of the 2006 version of the Kentuckiana Klash after taking the lead from early race leader Brad Neat around lap 15 of the 40 lap, 20 mile sprint. Owens would be followed to the checkered flag by Mike Jewell, Brad Neat, Michael England, and Terry English.

-The 2008 Kentuckiana Klash would see Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN make a slidejob pass of early race leader Don O’Neal around lap 25 and proceed to drive away from the field over the final 15 to score his second win in this event (won also in 2005). Don O’Neal would garner runner-up honors, while Kevin Claycomb, Brad Neat, and Victor Lee would complete the top five in an event that drew a record number of entries at 38.

-The 2009 Kentuckiana Klash would see eventual winner Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN survive a late race scare and tangle with a lapped car to win his second straight Kentuckiana Klash event and three overall win in this race. Trailing Marlar at the finish of the 40 lap, $5,000 to win event were Eddie Carrier, Jr., Justin Rattliff, Brandon Kinzer, and David Webb.
