STARS MDRL event at Southern Ohio Speedway has been postponed

SOMERSET, KY (June 26, 2011)—Officials from the Southern Ohio Speedway located in Wheelersburg, Ohio notified STARS Midwest Dirt Racing League President Chris Tilley on Saturday afternoon June 25th that the track would not be ready to be open in time for the scheduled Monday July 4th event.

“It’s so disappointing to have to push the track re-opening back a couple more weeks,
there was nobody more excited about the July 4th show than all of us”, stated Southern Ohio Speedway co-promoter T. J. Layne. “We had high hopes in being able to finish the project by July 4th, but there is just too much work left to do. We still have to replace all the wiring on
the lights, put in new lighting, replace light posts, put a catch fence in turns 3 and 4,
fence off the outside pits, put guardrail and fencing in to box in the infield pits, install
the PA system, fix the sheeps foot roller, finish installing bleachers, and finish
remodeling the press box and concession stand among other things. There’s just no
way we can get all of that done in a week.”

“We won’t finish the job partially and open the gates, the track is going to be right when we open on July 15th. We’re making many much needed changes to the speedway such as putting banking back in turns 3 and 4, moving a lot of the pits outside the track, fixing the issue with the spring in turn 4, fixing the lighting, etc. We aren’t just doing the necessary work to get the track open in this rebuilding project, we are making improvements that will benefit the track for years to come. We do apologize for any inconvenience cancelling the July 4th races may have caused and encourage everyone to support our neighboring tracks on 4th of July weekend.”

The series and the track plan to make-up the event and the series is still scheduled to visit Southern Ohio Speedway on Friday August 5th ($5,000 to win) and Saturday October 8th ($4,000 to win).

The STARS Midwest will still have a busy Fourth of July weekend with a double-header, starting on Friday Night July 1st at the Wartburg Speedway in Wartburg, TN as the STARS MDRL, STARS VRS and SRRS will be triple-sanctioning the $5,000 to win / $500 to start event. The next night on Saturday Night July 2nd the STARS MDRL and Southern Regional Racing Series (SRRS) will be co-sanctioning a $3,000 to win / $300 to start event at the Mountain Motor Speedway in Isom, KY for the 2nd Annual Roger Breeding Memorial race. There is a make-up date for Isom set for Sunday Night July 3rd if weather is a factor.
