Jimmy Mars Lays Claim to Second Firecracker 100 Title in Dominating Fashion!

(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) Jimmy Mars became the first repeat winner of the 'Firecracker 100' at the Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pennsylvania on Saturday night, June 25 by dominating the second half of the crown jewel event! After finishing second in his heat race, Jimmy rolled off from the inside of the fourth row in the 100-lap main event. In front of a massive crowd and the SPEED television cameras, Jimmy overtook Scott Bloomquist for the point on lap 45 and drove to a convincing 4.5 second win over Bloomquist, Rick Eckert, Josh Richards, and Steve Shaver. The Menomonie, Wisconsin native lapped up to the ninth position en route to claiming the hefty $30,000 payday!

Earlier in the weekend at Lernerville, Jimmy entered a pair of $6,000 to win preliminary events, which were also sanctioned by the World of Outlaws Late Model Series. On Thursday night, Jimmy won his heat race and finished fifth in the 30-lapper behind only winner Josh Richards, Rick Eckert, Steve Shaver, and Scott Bloomquist. The driver known as the "Iceman" was forced to scratch from Friday's program after experiencing valve train problems on his #28 MB Customs machine during hot laps. Complete results from the 5th Annual 'Firecracker 100' weekend at Lernerville can be accessed by clicking on www.worldofoutlaws.com.

Fans of Jimmy’s can tune in to the SPEED Channel on Saturday, July 9 at 1:00 p.m. EST to watch the two-hour ‘Firecracker 100’ broadcast! Check your local listings for time and availability in your area.

“It was obviously a great night for our team on Saturday at Lernerville,” stated Mars, who steered the same Deppe Enterprises / Baileigh Industrial / Keyes Chevytown / Moore Wireline #28 MB Customs machine that took him to victory lane in the 2009 edition of the Firecracker. “We opted to go harder on tires than most of the field and it really paid off those last fifty laps. The car was fast all weekend, we were good on Thursday night and finished in the top five, but then had the mechanical problem that took us out of action on Friday. I have to thank my brother Chris, all of the guys at the shop, and everybody that supports Mars Racing!”

The #28 team will not rest on their success from Lernerville last weekend, as they plan to jump right back into racing action with four events over the extended Independence Day holiday weekend. Jimmy tentatively plans to invade the Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, Wisconsin, the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minnesota, and the Eagle Valley Speedway in Jim Falls, Wisconsin from June 30-July 3. Below is Jimmy’s schedule, as it stands now, for the upcoming weekend:

June 30 | Mississippi Thunder (WI) Speedway, Weekly | $1,000 to win
July 1 | Mississippi Thunder (WI) Speedway, Dart Challenge | $3,000 to win
July 2 | Deer Creek (MN) Speedway, Dart Challenge | $3,000 to win
July 3 | Eagle Valley (WI) Speedway, Dart Challenge | $2,000 to win
