View Full Version : Fireworks On And Off The Track For NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Alabama Double-Header

CARTERSVILLE, GA – There will be fireworks on and off the track this holiday weekend with two events for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Tour. The action begins on Saturday night with the $2,500-to-win “Stars And Stripes 50” at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL and then on Sunday night, it’s the $2,500-to-win “Salute To The Armed Forces 50” at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL.

The action on both tracks will feature many drivers that fill the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series record books that will be among the 30-plus drivers representing seven states expected for both races.

The best battle in the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series point standings is right at the top of list between point leader Dan Breuer of Troutman, NC and two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Champion David Earl Gentry of Murfreesboro, TN in the second spot. Just 22 points separate the top two drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS standings.

Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA, the “Ironman” of the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS, is third in the standings, and will be looking to participate in his 114th and 115th consecutive series events. Turner is the only driver to compete in every event the series has held since its inception in 2005.

Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is fourth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series point standings and Steve Cooke of Mt. Airy, NC is fifth. The VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year point leader and the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region Champion Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL is sixth in the series standings. Edge was also the 2010 Late Model Champion at East Alabama Motor Speedway.

Seventh through tenth respectively in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS point standings that will make their way to Penton Raceway on Saturday night and East Alabama Motor Speedway on Sunday night are Mark Tice of Avon, MS, Frank Wilson of Harold, FL, Tootie Arnold of Bude, MS, and Mark Rosner of Maryville, TN.

Other travelers expected this weekend include Albert Cosnahan of Stillmore, GA, Chris Cantrell of Chester, SC, Bob Robertson of Evans, GA, Chris Wilson of Crossville, TN, Allen Netherland of Hattiesburg, MS, and Brad Comer of Gray, GA.

Also returning to series action is the 2010 VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year and former East Alabama Motor Speedway Late Model Champion Larry Harrod of Plains, GA. Harrod is the defending champion of the Stars And Stripes 50 at Penton Raceway. Another former VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year, Scott Knowles of Lanett, AL will be in action this weekend.

Knowles was the 2008 VP Racing Fuels RoY, and the 2009 NeSmith Chevrolet WRS OMG East Region Champion. Knowles also has NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Tour career wins at both Penton Raceway and East Alabama Motor Speedway, where he currently leads the Late Model Division point standings.

William Thomas of Phenix City, AL also has NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series career wins at both Penton Raceway and East Alabama Motor Speedway. Thomas took the Nesmith Chevrolet DLMS win on May 20 at Penton Raceway.

Also expected this weekend is the defending champion of the Salute To The Armed Forces 50 at East Alabama Motor Speedway is Terrance Nowell of Phenix City, AL. Nowell was the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region Runner-Up.

NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region 2011 regulars expected this Saturday night at Penton Raceway and this Sunday night at East Alabama Motor Speedway include Penton Raceway late model point leader Paul Walters of Valley, AL, Cord Dodgen of Lafayette, AL, Dana Eiland of Salem, AL, Taylor Mitcham of Lafayette, AL, Jake Sanders of Camp Hill, AL, and Ryan King of Anniston, AL.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series “Ride For Life” two-seat dirt late model will be at Penton Raceway this Saturday night to benefit the local chapter of the American Cancer Society. Race fans will have the opportunity to bid for rides at race speed around Penton Raceway with their favorite driver during a special auction, and they will also able to purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win a ride from a special drawing.

Drivers that will be donating their time and talent to give fans the “Ride For Life” to benefit the local chapter of the American Cancer Society this Saturday night at Penton Raceway are Chase Edge, Dan Breuer, Dana Eiland, William Thomas, and Paul Walters.

This Saturday night at Penton Raceway, the gates open at 4 p.m. Central Time with NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Registration and Pre-Race Technical Inspection from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. The Drivers Meeting is set for 7:45 p.m. and Hot Laps are scheduled for 8 p.m. All times for the Penton Raceway event are Central Time.

Penton Raceway will also have a live band on hand Saturday night with The Wicked Dixie Band in concert from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., and then perform another show after the racing events have been completed. On Sunday at East Alabama Motor Speedway, the pit gate opens at 3 p.m. Eastern Time and the grandstand gates open at 6 p.m. NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Registration and Pre-Race Technical Inspection from 5 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. The Drivers Meeting is set for 7:15 p.m. and Hot Laps are scheduled for 8 p.m. All times for EAMS are Eastern Time.

East Alabama Motor Speedway Motor Speedway will also present their huge annual fireworks show on Sunday night. East Alabama Motor Speedway is located six miles west of Phenix City, AL on U.S. Highway 80.
